Xlt does not like wet grass? has this happened to you?

Took my Xlt out in wet grass and dew the other morning. It didn't work right, screen froze on last object reading wouldn't clear.I said to myself this isn't good..lifted coil up water was running off it.Read a post recently in another forum where whites had this problem with earlier XLT coils not working in wet grass.Tested coil later when dry and no wet grass works fine..Has anybody else had this problem? My Xlt is a Spectrum, with its stock coil.I'm suspecting defective coil, when it comes to water and dampness.

I haven't heard of that in a long time. If you have loop cover on...check for salt/mineralization gunk between loop and cover? Is there a fresh spreading of fertilizer on the ground? ( Happened with me once.) If you need too, give Whites a call for sure.

Yeah I took cover off it was clear and clean. It was the baseball field in in a county park.Grass was soaking wet,and light groud fog that morning.Emailed whites they said send coil in,Its ready to go I just got done packing it.What does fertilizer do? now that you brought it up?:stretcher:

Fertilizers by nature have all kinds of stuff in them that are minerals and salts. I'm sure there are many that would have no effect but some do. (My one time was on a sports field too....nasty.) I've hunted this place several times after and no issues other than tons of clad looking like heck!

nw1886 did you ever have problem with your coil besides that one time? Got to admit not thrilled about sending coil off.I thats even problem:thumbdown:

The xlt i owned started having this same problem in wet grass. Then after awhile this problem never went away. I had a coil go bad. If you know someone with a xlt or another whites detector with same type coil try to borrow to see if problem goes away. Tom

Thanks Cintitomcat,Yeah I have a OXT,and the scholarly MONTE says they will work on the XLT.But its nice to know that,I wasn't going nuts that this has happened to others.I'm sending whites the coil, hopefully this will solve the problem. And will try XLT with a different coil in wet grass, next chance I get.Thanks.:stretcher:

KInda late in getting back but looks to have been handled well.... with good advise. To answer...nope,coil was fine 'till the day I upgraded. Good to see you on the road to getting this handled.

All it takes is a minute crack in the coil surface, and if water gets in, kiss your detecting godbye...It will be nothing but false signals, or worse, a short circuit...

Yeah hopefully thats problem, they should be getting it today (sat). And if I'm lucky get it back by next week.i sent it to sweet home ,though i could have shipped it closer.:stretcher:

Thanks Fred, I needed a good laugh.
