XLT All metal mode

Paul Robinson

New member
Hi all.
I am new to detecting and have just bought a Whites xlt, could someone please advise how to get the best out of this machine, and also advise how to put it into all metal.
Great site this.
Regards
Paul.

To get the "best" out of it, would depend on what type site you're going to hunt, the type targets you are after, etc... Basically, stick to the factory presets if you are not familiar with the machine. Too often people will be dazzled by all the user adjustable functions, and simply "assume" they need to twiddle and max out everything "lest they be missing out". Next thing you know they got the machine so hot and unstable that it's a spastic mess :)

As for putting it in all-metal, you can go into the controls and turn off the discrimination, or .... you can just push the toggle switch forward to lock it into pinpoint. Be sure to turn the auto-track and S.A.T., ratchet off, etc.... so that you are in true all-metal non ratchetting. Also for a better all-metal turn VCO on. That gives a ascending/descending tone based on the size/proximety of the metal object you are passing over, is better for sizing up, centering, etc.....

If you do use all metal get a 5.3 coil. The 950 will drive you crazy as it sees many targets at once as you swing coil in all metal mode.

Go to mixed mode audio..thats mostly all metal with disc thrown in. Another thing that is critical is sweep speed on the xlt. It matters.
