Xlt 9" coil ?

Is the stock 9'" xlt spectrum coil the same as a blue max 950 coil on my idx or is one more sensitive than the other? thanks

Great question Fred. Just to muddy up the post a bit, I have the same question about the multiple coils in this family of coils. Are there any differences in the effectiveness of the black max, blue max and etc. in the follwing size categories? I have read posts that extol the virtues of individuals in some of these size categories. But have not heard anything substantiating these claims out of the gurus here.

3.5" (4")?
6"?
8"?
9.5"?

Best Regards,
Steve

You can take ten coils of the very same type/design and test them and find slight differences. Generally, there will be very little difference in actual field performance. Some coils might "age' better than others. Some might get used more and subjected to more bumps and temperature extremes as well. Then, too, ten specimens of the same detector model will also have some differences among them. Combine a good 'typical' coil specimen and a good 'typical' detector and you get good, 'typical' performance. A hot coil or hot detector might show certain strengths. A wimpy coil or detector can also be noticeable.

Aside from the variations that can occur with wire winding placement, internal electronic components, coil tuning, etc., these have been variations of how they have designed the internals. Methods for securing the transmit and receive windings in place, for example. There have been two variations in the Blue Max 350, which is White's 4" "Snooper" coil. They changes the plastic housing color, and the latter varieties (mainly the black-color housings) have the shorter coil cable.

Hello Monte,
Thanks for your coil review! We have not been able to get out. Toni and Dianne are breaking a couple of horses right now but we will get out in July. I have been busy with work, but I do take both detectors out and piddle around with them in the air. I have been keeping a log of places to detect. A new one on the list is an early church yard that they will be renovating into a parking lot this summer. I need to get to before the window of opportunity is over.

Hope you are doing well. Have you been further east "ghost toning" yet this year?

Best Regards,
Steve

Youngest son & daughter are expecting their first child soon. Due July 4th, but her doctor told her it could be anywhere from June 27th to July 10th. It gives me a good excuse to get away for a week of vacation. :hot: This will be grandchild #18, and also a chance to see another son and their 5 year old who I've never seen. So, I'll be headed "back east" to Utah soon.

That son has lucked upon a Barber 10
