Try to obtain a copy of "Taking A Closer Look AT Metal Detector Discrimination" by Robert C. Brockett. Also, while not written for the XL Pro, you can get a free copy of "Fisher Intelligence, 5th edition" from Fisher Research Labs. Both are loaded with good, solid metal detecting advice.
When you get a few extra dollars to spend, you should consider purchasing a Blue Max 600 coil and a Blue Max 800 coil, especially if you will spend lots of time looking for coins. The Blue Max 600 coil will give you decent depth of detection while giving excellent target separation when hunting an area loaded with trash.
At this time, while you are still learning, do not spend much time on being concerned with achieving maximun depth of detection. What is important is learning how to adjust the XL Pro where it is stable operating in the ground conditions where you hunt. If you try to use too much Signal Balance, your XL Pro could become unstable with loss of depth of detection. Also, most coins are found at a depth of five or six inches. As you gain experience, you can adjust the XL Pro for maximum depth to locate the deep, deep coins that exist in many of the so called "hunted out" areas.
It is very important that you learn to use a good set of headphones. Headphones will enable you to hear faint signals better and save you money on batteries because batteries will last longer when using headphones.
This information should get you started in the right direction...enjoy your new XL Pro and I wish you luck in finding lots of treasure with it. Please have a great day! Kelley (Texas)
