XL-PRO ROOKIE NEEDS HELP:

Hey Guys, I just bought a WHITES XL-PRO Metal Detector, and I have read the manual twice, but I am alittle confused about setting it up.
I know to set the Controls at Preset, and make sure that the Threshold, is at a SLIGHT HUM. Then set it to Trac the AIR,raise the coil to Waist Level, pull the trigger/hold it until you hear a single beep. Then set GROUND TRAC/HOT ROCK REJECT, lower coil to ground, and pull TRIGGER/Hold until a single beep. Then it tells you to PUMP THE COIL up and down, and TUNE THE SIGNAL until there is virtually NO FLUXUATION in the HUM. I don't know that i fully understand the procedure. Any help is GREATLY APPRECIATED!! HH

Hi Les, Here's what I do. Set all the controls at Preset. Check the ground to make sure there is no metal. Raise the coil to waist level. Pull the trigger once to reset the machine. Set the Tuner (threshold). Then pull the trigger and hold it, and with your free hand, push the Auto GEB to AIR (listen for beep), then lower coil to the ground and switch the Auto GEB to GND/AUTOTRAC (listen for beep). Bob the coil up and down to see if the threshold changes, if it does (you may have to lower the Signal Balance if you can't get a good ground balance after a couple of tries), you have to repeat the procedure, if there's no/little change, then release trigger and you're done. If I'm detecting on ground of low mineralization, then I'll increase the Signal Balance (clockwise). If the ground has high mineralization, then I'll lower the Signal Balance (counterclockwise). Changing the Signal Balance requires ground balancing the machine again. I use GEB/DISC most of the time, although, once in a while I use GEB/SAT. I hope this helps. HH Kevin

After I set the "Threshold," I release the trigger...then ground balance by pushing the Air position switch forward and etc. Only difference is that I release the trigger after adjusting the "Threshold," not holding it back the entire time. Kelley (Texas) :)

ground balance can be set in any of the GEB modes without pulling the trigger. The trigger is only used to reset the machine, and to check for proper ground balancing (as well as, for pinpointing). My head must have been in a fog ;). Thanks for the catch Kelley. HH, Kevin

Whites says put the xlpro to the presets. pull trigger to clear and set the threshold hum to a comfortable level. clear with the trigger again. with the machine at waist level push the toggle foward to the air sign and wait for beep, then, after the beep lower to the ground and pull the toggle back to the auto trac position and wait for a beep again. If you get that beep the machine is already in geb-disc mode and ready to hunt. If you leave the machine in the auto-trac setting it will continue to adj. and improve as y0ou hunt. If you want to you can increase the Signal at this point and go through the air and auto geb procedure again, untill you are satisfied with the machines stability. After all that has been done... You can then.. pull the trigger under the meter to the back position and 'pump' the detector to check for threshold stability and proper ground balance. This puts the machine into geb-norm mode and that is the only way to check auto-geb/ ground balance. Some ground allows for more signal than other ground does, so by increasing the signal and seting auto-geb you sort-of cut to the chase. If you leave it in the presets and do not increase the signal , The machine will continue to moniter auto-geb and adjust on its own and thereby improve on its own. Hope this longwinded explanation helps you out. H/H and good luck, you chose a good machine.
