XL pro question

Johnny

New member
On a XL pro with a small coil like 5" what kind of depth will you get on a dime. And what is the best little coil for the trash?? Thanks

A good bet is 5" to 6" in depth with no problems, the Whites Bullseye 5.3" coil is a great little coil for the XL Pro in trash. If you want a little more ground coverage and depth the Whites 8" blue max or royal 800 coils work great on the Xl Pro.

The Xl Pro is one of the best detectors that Whites has ever made and it performs well with all the available coils for it.:bouncy:

Only run enough signal balance to make the detectors signal balance stable for best performance no matter which coil your using. The procedure for best signal balance performance is in the owners manual under advanced operating, if you run it to high or overdrive it for the ground conditions you may be hurting your maximum performance. The XL Pro is at max power from the factory and the signal balance does exactly that, balances the signal for maximum power, to high or to low and your performance will suffer. The signal balance control on the XL Pro is a little different than the gain or sensitivity on a regular detector even though it works in sort of the same way by running as much as the detector will take while remaining stable.

Also I believe Kellyco still sells the Whites 8" coils for the XL Pro. The 8" coil is the same one for the Whites XLT.

hotter than preset with the 5.3 coil and it is very deep and also very stable. It will hit dimes at 7" to 8" and there is no falsing. I set it until it is at the peak of instability...then back it off some...then re-ground balance...and it's very stable and deep. I was just wondering if you could increase it some with the 800 coil too? I checked the white's web site and also Kellyco and it looks like they only carry the blue max 1500 now.

johnny!
it is possible to get even better than 6"!..it depends a lot on the ground you hunt in!..ie:..less mineralized ground=generally means better depth!..i have found dimes at a measured 8.5 to 9"..the 5.3 coil is an amazing coil, and does very well in isolating targets in trash!

i agree with bill!..the issue is not with the coil selection, but in getting the signal balance adjusted properly for the conditions encountered!..too much, and you risk instability, too little, and you affect depth!.i try to run signal balance to just becoming unstable
then back off to where it becomes smooth, and the meter stabilizes from jumping around!

i dont run the 8",but i would think you need to experiment from site to site to determine the correct signal balance settings for that coil!

a big difference in the amount of signal balance each coil can handle...regardless of location. I've had the 9.5 coil to 10 different locations but have yet to be able to get it past preset with falsing. The 5.3 Bullseye however can be set much higher without falsing in the exact same ground locations. I was just wondering if you or Bill had been able to get the 800 coil past preset on the signal balance. That fact has a great deal to do with the depth I get on the sunray probe as well. When I run the hotter and higher set signal balance on the 5.3 coil..I get a full 3" depth on the sunray probe. On the 9.5 coil however I only get about 1 to 2" because it isn't being run as high on the signal balance. I was hoping to get somewhere in between with the 800 coil.
I do agree with both you and Bill 100%. I set it as hot as I can for the area...then back it off a little. As always....your excellent tips and advice are appreciated. My SE hasn't been getting as much hunt time since the 6000 xl pro arrived. I even bought an XL PRO with over 13 months warranty left on it just 3 days ago. That's how much I like this machine....so I now have 2 of them.

I just looked on Kellycos web page and they have the Royal 800 coil for $99.00, Look under accessories and click on coils then go down to the Whites coil selection.:clapping:

Also with the 8" coil I have worked areas way above pre set and areas where the ground only allowed a pre set or lower setting on signal balance. I have also experienced the same thing with all the other coils that I have for the Xl Pro to include the stock 950, the 5.3 Bullseye and the 8" Blue Max. I have found the ground conditions are the main factor on how much signal balance the detector will take and the coil is secondary in this factor.:)

the stock 950 of the newer unit on your current model. If you still can't increase the Signal Balance up to about the 12-o-clock to 3-o-clock setting, then it's possibly the detector. If, however, the newer 950 works 'OK' at a higher SB setting, then that suggests your 950 coil is out of spec, which is what I would guess to be the problem.
