XL Pro Mods???????

I a thr

I have been wondering if anyone has ever added a couple of colored indicator lights to an XL Pro? I mostly coin hunt and some places cherry pick silver. Is this a possibility or am I just wishing? If a small light or two could be added indicating silver and copper it would sure be handy in late evening when the meter becomes difficult to read. Any input would be appreciated.

Well it is a do-able project, but a complicated one. The meter is basically a voltage meter. You just need to make a circuit that will turn on a specific LED at a specific voltage range and not interfere with the operation of the detector (no spurious RF interference).

It would be much easier to make a small LED illuminator for the meter so you could see it in the dark or just wear one of those 1 watt Luxeon LED headlamps - where you look there is light. The headlamp will help with digging also (I got mine at Lowe's for about $19 and use 3 NiMh batteries in it). That way there is no modification to the actual machine and no damage to your resale value if you ever decide to sell it (say it ain't gonna happen)

I guess I was just dreaming and didn't know how difficult the process might be. As far as selling the Pro, NOT I said that once about another machine I had and did sell it. Wish I had it now also, although it wasn't an ID machine. The Musky was a hunter.

Here is the headlamp I got at Lowes for $20. This thing is bright and perfect for night hunting. I use the Eveready NiMh AAA batteries in mine and they seem to last forever. Plus it's great for anything where you need a bright flashlight and both hands free. For detecting, I really like the way you just look at something and the light moves as you turn your head (sort of a Locutus of Borg thing if you know what I mean).

It's a Dorcy model 41-2100 1 watt Luxeon LED headlamp. The link just shows's lowes.com but it should take you to the right page for the headlight.
