If you are looking for someone to do the Tone ID MOD get in touch with d1g1man he does outstanding work you will be very happy if you have him do the job!!! He has a video on how it works. Please check him out. Thanks Jim

Thanks for the tip! I did just that and he seems like a great guy and a real detectorist.
I cant wait to get the XL-Pro out in the field with tone ID!!!

Well my faithful old XL-Pro has returned with d1g1man's Tone ID installed and I am blown away!
This takes the XL to a whole other level for those who hunt by ear.:detecting:

My "proving ground" is a 1951 school that I have found many silver dimes and a lot of interesting relics at.
The variety of items on this site makes me believe it was a farm/homestead before it became a school yard.
With a couple of hours before dark I hunted the school using tone ID with the 8" Royal coil and dug all signals for the first hour to evaluate responses vs tones. In short order I found that the tones are straight forward and easy to co-relate to the meter, I would advise anyone getting the modification done to hunt and pinpoint interesting signals, and then sweep them with controlled sweeps of about 12-18" directly over the pinpoint location while listening to the audio and watching the meter, 20 -30 signals should give a good handle on basic operation in tone ID mode.
For me personally it was a real treat not to have to watch the meter for every response as I like to hunt with disc set between ground and just at or below nail to unmask targets. After digging a dozen low iron tones/meter readings I was confident in ignoring that meter segment and just concentrated on the mid to high range tones which had me digging aluminum, (which I do in search of gold), but the sweet high tones were coins all the way, even our Canadian dimes rang in above zinc which was really nice, as I got seven in a two hour hunt, plus a US clad Rosie dime, lots of copper cents also going back to the fifties.
Pinpoint with the VCO is also nicely improved for me in that the last little twitch of the meter as you zero in is accompanied by a distinct kick up in audio tone and volume that corresponds to the strongest signal attained in non-motion all metal.
All in all for anyone who is an audio first kind of hunter this mod will be money well spent to expand the already great capabilities of the Xl-Pro, and what is nice is that if the Tone ID gets too busy in a site you can switch back to the familiar mono tone Whites responses if it is more comfortable for you.
Ken does very professional electronic work, and is real genuine nice guy to deal with, if you want to get the tone ID mod for your personal machine I highly recommend him. He will take care of your machine like it was his own, nuff said.

Any one wanting more feed back can PM me.

HH,

Drew.

What is the charge for the upgrade? I have xl:thumbup::confused: pro sl

I have received a couple of messages from some who are confused about the mod.

Mrand is the inventor of the mod and gets full credit for it.

I am just another detectorist that has the tools and knowledge that is stateside and willing to install the mod.

Thank you

-Ken
