XL-PRO HOT AIR TEST!

Active member
I posted awhile back about my XL-PRO with the Tone mod. air test results with Signal balance at 3:00. I was playin' with it this morning and for some reason I could get the Signal Balance wide open with no EMI. I live in a mobile home so this was unusual to say the least. So I did another air test and with the signal balance wide open disc. at nail in GEB DISC. I could hit a silver dime at 11'' with proper Tone and I.D ! I think that is awesome for a Whites 4 filter analog or any detector for that matter. Now if the last of the snow would melt could see what I get in the field.

That's a pretty healthy machine,no matter what it is. Personally I feel that proper ID at depth is more important than anything. That's what I love about Whites, they are spectacular in that department, most of the time. On my IDXs,if it can make the machine beep,it can tell me a solid TID as well, most of the time. They are VERY reliable and it makes hunting a lot more fun.
How far down Illinois are you? I'm about 1/2 hour from the border in southern WI.

Harold,
I've heard those machines go deep. Always thought about
getting one but went with the Whites Eagle SL 90 last
year as a back up. Wonder how these 2 machines compare
in DEPTH with both machines having a signal balance also.
Like you, I'm here in Elmhurst ,Illinois roughly 20 minutes from
you and am DYING TO GIT OUT!!!!!! Have a great year man...

from experience, a lot of experience, with the 6000 Pro XL and renamed XL Pro models against other upper-end units from White's, I'd take a good XL Pro any day to the Eagle SL 90. They can all do pretty well, but the XL Pro was a fresh circuitry design and not just the earlier model circuitry stuffed in the smaller slim-line housing of the XLT. The 6000 Pro XL only retained about 15 to 17 parts of the former 6000 Di Pro SL model, which it replaced, according to one of the design engineers.

Now, I am not saying it will always go inches deeper, but it does provide a little slower sweep than the Eagle SL 90 can, and I found it to get a little better depth in the field in comparisons. That said, I am not big on 'DEPTH' most of te time because most of the sites I hunt are quite trashy and most targets, discarded junk and keepers, are usually located from surface to about 3"- 4" with an occasional deeper-keeper to 5" and very rarely down to 6". Those 5" and 6" depths are usually associated with areas that have been plowed, dug, or had cattle stopping things a bit deeper in wet, muddy weather.

Harold, I have bought and traded for many 6000 Pro XL and XL Pro models. Why? Because I like them and they are one of White's all-time best detectors, like the XLT. Because of that, they have had a good resale appeal.

Naturally I make sure each and every one is checked out, often times even at the White's Factory as well as me checking them for function and performance. Of the approximately two dozen I have handled, there have only been two of them, just two, that allowed me to adjust the Signal Balance higher than normal and up to maximum adjustment w/o chatter or instability. As most know, you can usually get to about the 1 o'clock to almost 3 o'clock setting and be on the 'ragged edge' of instability, but just two could be adjusted to the maximum setting and maintain stability and still work well.

Monte thanks for the reply. I can usually get it to 3:00 inside and in the Field. But for some reason yesterday I could get it wide open? I tried today and could only go to 3:00 as per usual. But at 3:00 signal balance I can still hit a Dime at 10'' with proper Tone and I.D. I sent the detector to Whites after the Tone Mod. as it was a little erratic. I talked to Todd and he said he had to resolder a crystal and recalibrated the detector. When I got it back it was way smoother and hotter! Whites has best service IMHO.

Harold...just so you can't say I "big timed" you....I dropped in to say that is a good depth on the air test. I took mine to a big city park, it was pretty much thinned out. Only old coin I scored was a deep 1917d wheat penny, it was about 7" and came in on the second hightone. I say it was deep because I was using the Blue Max 600 coil. The tone mod did good in this park, I was using HOT ROCK REJECT, SIG BAL at 3:00, DISC. at NAIL REJECT, GROUND BAL at Neutral and 'Locked'.
