'Lock' the GB setting (or have GEB Trac turned 'Off').

I was wondering if any here who use the XL-PRO in GEB/DISC. use manual Ground balance and lock it instead of auto? In the manual it doesn't mention using it in any mode except TR/DISC. I'm trying to sqeeze a little more depth as it is lacking to me ,But the ground here is pretty dry. Thanks.
Harold, the 6000 Di Pro SL's and 6000 Pro XL and renamed XL Pro models can only be adjusted for Ground Balance in the GEB All Metal mode or GEB-Disc. mode by using the Air sample and Ground sample method. The "manual" GB technique is only functional in the TR-Disc. mode, and then that only achieves what would be an All Metal accept setting since only the ground signal is 'discriminated.'
As a4wdguy mentioned, the Auto-Trac function was much improved in the latter version (CB circuitry) 6000 Di Pro SL models as well as the newer engineered 6000 Pro XL and XL Pro model. By "improved," I mean they tracked better and updated the GB setting better, and the 'Lock' function worked great, compared with their early release in '85 where the 'Lock' ... didn't lock-and-hold.
But, they are not a fast-acting Auto-Trac system like the current M6 and MXT Pro models. Instead, it requires a good number of side-to-side sweeps of the search coil over mostly bare ground to read, analyze and update a functional GB setting. Depending upon the ground mineral conditions, it could require 10-12 or more sweeps over target-free ground. My personal desire is to try and get a very slightly positive Ground Balance, then 'Lock' and hold that setting. Usually can accomplish that by selecting some of the more mineralized ground in the area, and that might mean some exposed rock or ???
I then might have to do several Air and Ground toggle sample maneuvers to get what I want and then 'Lock' the setting. I have also done the regular Air/Gnd procedure, then used the Auto-Trac function and sweep the coil about the area, especially any more mineralized ground, and make a successful number of sweeps to get the GB I want. That would be either 'spot-on' or ever-so-slightly positive, then I stop the sweeping and toggle to 'Lock.'
I like to be more in control of a detector, especially the GB and how it is set for the sites I hunt, and that means I like it set right on or just slightly positive. I keep my MXT Pro and 6000 Pro XL models in the 'Lock' setting all the time, and I have Auto-Trac turned 'Off' on my XLT and VX3 as I just use the prescribed GB methods for each of those models, and maintain the GB setting achieved. If the ground mineral conditions change, I will update the GB for any model in hand.
