XL PRO compared to DFX? What would be the benefit?

Well, I found out that once people know I detect they seem to mention units for sale. My workmate's father has a DFX that is practically new and doesn't want it anymore; it seems he and his friends bought detectors to use at a beach house they used to rent every summer. They no longer rent the house so they don't use their detectors. My XL PRO is great, but I may be able to get a killer deal on the DFX. Besides the digital readout, what exactly would I gain in capability over the XL? I mean, would the investment be that much of an improvement over the XL? Any comments would be appreciated, I'd hate to buy it and end up using the XL while the DFX sits in the closet.
Thanks!

You can custom program the DFX and also at 15khz the DFX is hot on gold. Now for coin hunting the XL PRO is very hot and deeeep on silver.
I have hunted with guys using DFX and found silver that was missed with the DFX ????.

Well, since I last wrote this thread I ended up buying the DFX. It's a LOT different than I am used to! It still doesn't seem to go as deep as my XL, I think I need to go beyond the factory programs and customize a little. I tell you though, I still like the way my XL picks up coins and locks right on. I guess I have to force myself to use the DFX or I'll never realize its full potential.

The DFX will go deep but you will need to learn to program it.
Most give up on it.
I would go to the DFX forum to learn it.
The XL PRO and DFX will make a good team.
I wanted the M6 and it is work ing well for me.

I've owned several DFX's since they were first released and I'm not a huge fan, it can still offer some advantage over your XL in certain circumstances. IF you learn it well and understand the necessities behind programmning above and beyond stock settings, you can hunt with it slower than with your XL and it has a nice wide array of DD coils available for it which the XL doesn't. As mentioned in another post, choice of single frequencies can be of help also. In a lot of ground, it will be "iffy" that you can achieve the depth you get with the XL. Good luck with it.

I regularly hunt with a buddy who has a DFX (we bought them at the same time - he had deeper pockets). I often find he calls me over to review a deep target before he takes the time to dig it. The XL Pro is usually spot on with the target ID on the scale and does seem to be a little deeper with me digging less trash (by spot on, I mean it is consistent - a pop top will read the same and same for other trash and good targets of a like type. Being familiar with where trash and good objects read and how they sound is the biggest part of the equation). On the other hand, I understand the machine a little better than he does and my settings are constantly being tweaked for each site while he just uses the out of the box settings.

I have played with his settings, and I like the simplicity of a few knobs on the XL Pro better than the multitude of digital switch settings he has to decide on.

The DFX may be a better machine in the hands of a Whites trained technician, but in the field for the "average joe", the XL Pro is a winner in my book.

Just my opinion...
