Xchange2 Restore Factory Samples

fsdigital12

New member
I downloaded exchange 2 software and mistakenly modified "hit edit" the "Coins" sample program and changed discrimination settings on that sample, thus losing the discrimination pattern for the factory "Coins" program.

I now know I should have hit, add new mode instead.

How do I get this sample pattern back? (Coins)

I've tried uninstalling the software completely but the modification is retained and the "Coins" sample is not there.

Note: I just ordered the 3030 so I don't have the machine to hookup to the computer yet.

I am trying to set things up ahead of time.

I don't know if the UNDO button will help you or not after a save, I haven't tried it. Of course you can download it when you get your CTX or someone can post the stock coins pattern for you to edit your own copy. I don't have the original either or I could do it, sorry.

Thanks Larry.

Undo didn'y work....I tried emailing minelab to see what they say..... I also don't know how I would import patterns/modes from files without connecting the detector first. It looks like the "File" option only turns on when the machine is plugged in??

The FILE icon is there all the time and is only needed to put files into, before exporting them to your computer, or receiving the files imported from your computer.. The CTX icon only appears once the CTX has been connected to the computer. The FILE is not a place to store modes, etc. You can create new Collections and name them whatever you like (12 or fewer characters). That is the place to store files for easy access when in the XChange2 app. Once you have the CTX hooked to the computer via the USB cable, it is simple to move files to and from. In the XChange2 app it's a drag and drop procedure for moving the files. BUT, before the changes take place in the CTX, the USB cable will need to be disconnected from the machine with the CTX still ON. Then watch the screen of the CTX, it will go thru a few sequences and will be silent. Once the detect screen comes back with the threshold tone, you are ready to go, the changes have been completed. Then you can turn off the machine. If you turn the machine off before unplugging the USB cable, the changes do not take place in the CTX.

The COIN program should be on the CTX when you receive it. It should be just a matter of transferring it to your computer after that.

The file folder is labeled Samples.

I found this on another post.

I'm guessing you can't use "File" Import until you plug the machine in???

Is there no way to import MLF files until you have your machine connected?

That is correct, you must have something to import from. I have heard you can share files with others but I haven't done it............ anyone? As easy as Xchange2 is, I can create my own patterns with the Audio edited in less than two minutes, I really don't have a need to share files IMHO. This is what I changed the coins pattern to and that is what I use 99% of the time.

Thanks for all the help so far guys

See attached screenshot.

I can't see file....

Here is a screen shot of my XChange 2, without being logged in and not having the CTX hooked up. I don't remember the FILE icon never being there. You do not have to have the machine hooked up to import or export files to your computer. Import and Export have nothing to do with transferring files, to or from your CTX. Using Import and Export sends or brings in ?.mlf files from your computer's hard drive. If you Export a file it will go into the Downloads Folder with a name like: xchange2share.mlf. I don't know why it doesn't use the name you have given it, but it doesn't. Once the file is in the Downloads Folder, you can rename it, keeping the mlf extension, and store it wherever you like. These files can be emailed to others if you desire.........Maybe never having a CTX actually hooked to the computer and getting into the XC2 app. initially makes a difference. I wouldn't think so, but can't explain why the FILE icon is not there.....
Once the CTX is connected by the USB cable to the computer and turned on, copying files from the CTX to the XC2 app and vice versa, is basically like copying files to different locations in Windows Explorer: left click hold, drag, and drop into the location you want it.

I had my CTX connected the first time I got into the XChange2 app.

Wildherre, Thanks for clearing that up.....HH

Thanks Guys

Here is the response I got from Minelab about restoring the stock samples

"The only way to re-instate the sample data is to remove the XChange 2 database and re-install the application. This can be done by following these instructions:"

Go to the folder %appdata%\xchange2 in windows explorer.

- delete the file mldata

- re-install XChange 2

That's not the only way. Here is an easier way.. You can connect your CTX to the computer and open Xchange2. You can the open the CTX folder, which are the files on the CTX itself, and drag the sample file from the CTX folder to the sample folder in the Xchange 2 program. The file will then be at both locations. That is how I restored my Coins program back to the sample folder of Xchange2 when I modified it and saved it under another name.

If the poster had his CTX, I'm sure he would do that, but his problem is a lack of detector.

Well maybe it will help someone else who owns a CTX. It's a lot easier than uninstalling and re-installing Xchange2. Minelab said that un-installing/ re-installing was the only way. I just presented a second way to reload it.
