XChange 2 organization question.

Before I post in the 'Software update suggestions,' I thought I'd ask here first.

In XChange 2 I have a collection with a lot of search modes in there. I would like to move them around and put them in the order that I want. There doesn't seem to be any good way to do that. All there is, is the sort by date, name, type, or latitude. Dragging and dropping doesn't work. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Harry

I'm glad you brought this up, because I've been wanting to add this similar request to the software update request as well, but haven't read through them all. But Xchange 2 as far as I can tell, does not handle some basic windows file management functions that would make life so much easier! We can create folders to put our finds in for all the places we hunt, but after awhile I have so many places I've hunted and I like to keep track of all my hunting sites, but the more I add the longer the program takes to load up, and it gets bogged and crowded, it would be so much nicer and easier if we could place folders within a folder, and nice also if we could copy and paste items. As it is now, I have to make a collection/folder for every place I hunt, so I have a place to store my finds/waypoints for that hunt. If we could create folders or collections that could be placed in other collections then I could simply put all of my , lets say Portland hunting sites together in 1 folder, having many collections in that 1 folder, such as one collection for each park in Portland that I hunt. Make sense? If this can already be done in Xchange2 I'd sure like to know how , and why it isn't so obvious if it is able to be done.

The program just needs some basic windows file handling functionality and it would be a huge help. That and cut and paste ability. If this is something that can be done that would be simply fantastic and make my life much easier. I've read through the upgrade info awhile back and never saw this info put in there, but most of those requests were for the actual software that runs the detector.

You add quite a bit to what I was requesting, but what you say makes sense. There are just to many little difficulties with Xchange that make things a cluttered mess and a bit more difficult to use. While I have found a way to put the collection folders in the order that I want them, it's tedious. I can also put the files in the folders pretty much in the order I want them but it's tedious also, and the files tend to get out of order after a while.

I would say color code by collections since dragging and dropping doesn't work.

You could color code with relational names and colors such as.....
Coins Portla / RelicsPort / (SomePlace)NPortland
Green / Green / Green

GoldAtlantis / SilvAtlantis / o_o$Atlanti$
Gold / Light Grey / White

It would be nice to add a bit more of the Windows folder functionality to the Xchange2 software.

It seems to me that several years ago I saw a free to use software program put out by microsoft that helped you write software for windows functionality. But, I think that was back when windows ME and 2000 were out.

I wonder if they could have used something like that to make XChange? Maybe there is no such thing for the newer windows.

Harry, I'm sorry for pouncing all over your post! Please accept my apology! This has been on my mind for some time now as it has become frustrating waiting for Xchange2 to load up now because of all the collection/folders I've created, and your post about what you want to do is mainly because the program lacks some basic windows file handling capabilities, I'm not a programmer or expert so I don't know exactly how to put it, but to be able to put folders/collections within collections, and copy and paste text etc. and reorganize files and folders would greatly enhance the program, and hopefully it is on the horizon. Minelab had to put something out with the machine and the program Xchange 2 has some fantastic features and I love it, it would just be nice to add the basics to its capabilities. I should have started another thread instead of jumping on yours so please forgive me, didn't mean to be rude!

Sincerely,

Don

Hey Don, no apologies necessary. I didn't think you were pouncing on my post. In fact, I thought your ideas are good. I did decide to make a post in the 'Software Update Suggestions,' and I referenced this post so that they can see not only what I wrote, but what you wrote also.

Thanks for your input.
Harry

Great Harry! I sure hope they take note, these are very basic requests to add to the program functionality. Basic is easy to say though, not being a programmer, I don't know how difficult it is to add that, but almost all windows programs have those basic functions and they would be incredibly helpful!!! Thanks for starting this topic Harry! Now I guess we wait and see what happens...I hope we don't have to bump this thread a year from now LOL
