xcalibur 2 alkaline batt. pod

I just ordered a new alkaline pod today for my xcalibur 2. Just wondering if anyone else here has one and how they like or dislike it. How long will they run with fresh batteries? Is there a problem with the alkaline running to low of voltage after a few hrs., making it false or act similar to the NiCad when it dies? Hope I made a wise choice. I can't imagine minelab selling them if they were that bad.

I tried using Ray O Vac alkalines with my alkaline battery pod on my Exca II and it wouldn't settle down, tried fresh batteries, same thing. Didn't try any other type batteries so don't know if it was just the Ray O Vacs. I bought some rechargables from justbatteries online and they work great. I just recharge them after 8-10 hours of use and no problem. I just like having a back up battery pod when hunting. HH

It works best with non rechargeable batteries inside the pod. Some rechargeable batteries wont work even when fully charged, so beware! It's best to secdisposablesvandcrecycle them. Good luck :)

The reason for rechargeables not running your Excalibur is that when charged to their optimum capacity they only have a voltage of 1.2v giving only 9.6v total. This is insufficient to run th detector. Use good quality alkalises and you will get in excess of 10 hrs operating time. HHS, Mike

you do have to watch the voltage of the batteries you buy. Like was mentioned you cant get 9.6V and expect much if anything from them. Get a rechargable pack and charger from onlybatterypack and problem solved. I keep hoping RNB innovations will take this on... but not yet.

Thanks for all the comments. I am an energizer fan, so I'll give them a shot in the pod first. Thanks again everyone.

Their regular website has been down for maintanence but it's maxxpacks.com Either way, look for Minelab Excalibur. Hope it's ok to post this. HH

I myself open the pod & get replacement from batteries plus . After the charge I get 8 to 12 hrs on the battery. I always carry a backup on my belt this way if it does go dead after many targets , it's an easy switch.
The price I pay $43.50 + tax
