Xcal all ready

Well i had bought what i thought was a very nice Blue a couple of months back only to have the coil cable blow up on me. So ill give you all a little advice. When putting your coil on your shaft....... tape it very close to the lower part of it then run it straight up with any excess high up around the cuff. Tape it so you dont get any cable movement. Because in the water that movement will be extreme... you can feel the calvatation.... almost drag.

So i added a 10" Sov coil, PP switch, and a nice pair of skullie headphones to the mix. Nice set up.... and those phones are clear as a bell and just as comfortable as my GGA. Joe did a nice job on my machine. The PP switch really reduces TID time out there. Today was my second day out with them....... had a good clad day, junk jewelry, and one nice silver ring the first time out. Today..... nice 7.6 gr 14K white gold band. I prefer the skullie tones over even the GGA.... just crisp and separates the lower targets better. Being able to switch between the skullies, GGA, and my Blue headphones is sweet. Ive noticed since i started using the Blue Xcals my nickel count has really increased.

Joe did my PP switch also, I really like hunting in all metal now. I believe I know what you mean by taping the coil wire close and running straight up but could you post a pic. Want to show it to my hunting partner who also bought a older blue excal 800 for a backup....thanks

Here you go. I think MOST of the ones ive seen with split cables all happen right above the cable connector. Id say it happens because the cable gets brittle and it calvatates if a lot if you dont tape it close. I stand mine straight up to ensure i give it enough slack.... BUT tap it about 3 inches or so from the coil.

What kind of headphones are you using there Dew? They look like they've got a lot of room and don't pinch the ears at all, plus that outside shape is smooth, very little wind noise off them?

I had the 10" Tornado on my Elite last weekend and gotta say except for the feel in weight, it performs as good and might be deeper than the 10X12 SEF.

Congrats on the gold. Last ring I found was a stainless steel one with two gold bands on it, had me going until I got home and looked at it with my glasses:detecting:

Neil.. i tested my 13" against the 10 before i put it on. In the wet sand it held its own because i could run more sensitivity than with the 13". So around salt water its a good coil. Neil these are Joes Skullie IIs. Im not certain what the shells are but they are great fitting and tight to your head, not a lot of noise gets in. I highly recommend taping your cable close to the coil.... doesnt seem to be as much drag either.

Id like to add one more important fact to this thread. With Joes new cap with the CTX connector.... if your headphones go and you cant afford the $250 or so ML will charge you to put a pair of yellows on...... the yellows with a CTX connector from a dealer is like $150... or you can use any that the CTX uses. NICE..... for the price. The CTX is going to be around for awhile so its a good upgrade. Ive not tried to get a connector/coupler, but i bet there is one where you can use the phones on the Sov as well.

Ive got a few hours on the new set up. Just great Joe. Ive found more than enough gold/silver to pay for the mod. Id been using PP mod lately with all the sanded conditions and lack of targets. Wow.... what a difference with the switch. I do have to say i may have to change out the handle.... i use a bike grip a little larger and it seems to help my trigger finger problem. I let my hunting buddy try my skullies yesterday.... made him hate his GGA lol. The phones are a huge improvement over the pelters. Nice and snug with the best adjustment mechanism is seen so far. They really stay in place and dont pinch my head quit as bad as the GGA do. Not a lot of outside noise, but add a pair of gel pads and you would be up town on those small weak targets in PP. I can also say..... if you need to replace a coil .... use a Sov. You can pick them up reasonable. Two thumbs ups Joe on the mods.... you really have them down. Now you have to work on a Litho battery set up lol.
