X8 Question

I just bought an X8 and was wondering, should I expect to get the same (approx)depths as I would get with the Sovs 8 in coil?

Should get at least a couple inches deeper than the Sov with 8 inch on penny/dimes even more on bigger stuff

I have the stealth X8 by Sunray(for the explorer) and just wondering if I can expect the same depth from the Sunray that I was getting out of the regular minelab 8 in coil for the sov? I just don't seem to be getting the depth from the Sunray. I realize I'm trying to compare two different machines but the Sov is the only machine I have with an 8 inch coil that I can compare. When I get a fairly deep target with the sov I try the Explorer with the X8 and it doesn't seem as loud of a hit as it is with the Sov. but it does pick it up. I haven't found a target deep enough yet which either won't pick up. I will say the Explorer with the X8 does a better job of pinpointing then the Sov with the 8 in minelab coil.

Just wondered what your gain was set at? If it was high ( 7 -> 10) you should get a loud hit on the Explorer as well.
I'm not sure what the equivalent setting is on the Sov as it's not adjustable but can't imagine it hitting louder than a maxed Explorer???
HH ... Gord..

If your using the explorer phones, you wont get as loud a hit as you would with the gray ghosts or other good phones

Larry,
I agree that the Sovereign with the 8 inch coil is a louder hit than the Explorer with anyone of the coils from my experience if it is at med depth. I then run my gain higher on the Explorer and it helps a bit, but to me the Explorer you have to listen closer to it to hear any of the targets unlike the Sovereign. To me the surface ones are loud, inbetween ones are weak and I wonder if it will hear a deep one, but the ones I have dug that are real deep have always been able to hear with them louder or more solid than the Sovereign at that depth. I wonder if anyone else has notice this.

Rick,
The Explorer is definately quiet. The Sovereign really blasts loud with the Explorer headphones on it. Have you tried them on your Sovereign?
Got 8" of snow last night.

I've been running my gain at 6 I'm going to crank it up alittle and see how it reacts. I won't be doing it though till it thaws again. I think I will try my explorer headphones on the sov just to see how they work. Its hard for me to let go of the sov its been a great machine for me. I just feel I'm missing stuff when I'm just using the Explorer, but I know its a hell of a machine and I just need to have faith in it.

Rick,
I tried the Explorer headphones on the Sovereign and it is OK, but the Timberwolfs are louder and clearer sounding too.
So you got 8 inches of snow last nite, we havent had 8 inches all winter I dont think, maybe we did back in early Nov and then nothing much. Our ground is just froze too hard to do anything.
Rick

Larry,
I know what you mean about the Sovereign as we know what it can do. I will not get rid of my Sovereign no mater how good the Explorer is as i know the Sovereign has done better for me than any other detector and I too feel i am missing some targets with the Explorer that the Sovereign would have got, the Explorer has to prove itself to me like the Sovereign has.
