x705 or Safari Given the Choice

Enrique

New member
Just got a nice used 705 and two coils DD 5x10 and 6" M F have not used yet going to FL soon but my original quest was for a safari if those of you who know more on these two were given the choice which would you take. and why??

I would choose the 705 without a doubt.
Here is my reasoning, the 705 is the top of line for the Xterras
and the Safari is bottom for multi-frq.
Since you got the 705, now get one of them in the Explorer series.
That way you don't have to second guess if you did the right thing.
Well...that is my opinion anyway.

I had the 70 and switched to the SE, then when I was looking for a machine for my wife I got her the 705, she took it out 1 time and the thing was all over the place, so I traded it up for a Safari. I tell you one thing the Safari has done just as good as my Explorer SE. Its just a little easier to use. I don't have any complaints about the Xterra series I have used most of them and done well I had the 50 the 70 and the 705, but since I switched to the FBS I haven't looked back. It is a huge difference. But that's just my opinion.

If you're heading to Florida, I assume you are going to be hunting the beach. In that case, the X-Terra 705........ weight, balance, sweep speed, Beach Mode, Tracking GB Offset, larger display, backlight, Sizing Pinpoint and it takes half as many batteries! JMHO HH Randy

I have both and they each have their use. My 705 with the 10.5 coil is my to-go relic machine and the Safari seems to be my yard hunting machine so far, as I don't have as many hours on it that I do the XTerras. I am looking forward to relic hunting with the FBS that the Safari Has to offer.

Great input , Thanks I will go with what I have now and if I have a good year spring for the Safari and have the best of both worlds.

You have to look at what you have in front of you:
1st You have single frequency vs multi. you can't compare the 2.
2nd The 705 for single frequency is a top unit hands down.
3rd Do you understand how multi frerquency works? you can do things that no single frequency can do. you must do your homework, if you have the 705 than good for you. Learn it!!! if you get ANY other detector learn it.
4th the multi frequency detectors have the best target ID hands down and the sovereigns are at the top in that category not the explorers.

I hit coins at 10" range with my 8" coil with no problem on them old wheat pennies. Thats in my moderately mineralized Jersey soil (inland sites). And my target ID confirms it. no single frequency has that type of accuracy.
Plus you pull coins out next to iron or other junk. another benefit of multi frequency.

But the 705 is tops in its class!!!
