X70 users, how would you feel about an Auto-Tracking GB offset?

When the X70 Auto-tracks GB, their is is obviously a piece of software that picks a GB value from moment to moment as the coil moves over the soil. Now when manually setting the GB you can add a couple of points positive or negative to suit your needs.

So for example let's say the X70 in Auto-tracking has chosen the GB value of "30" in a given instance, would you like to be able to set/adjust an offset to that i.e. -3,-2,-1,0,+1,+2,+3? If this menu item was at factory default it would be "0", which would cause the detector to be tracking at "30". But I can intervene and cause it to be a "32" by setting the offset to "+2". This offset would apply throughout the GB range, i.e. detector tracks as "45" but my offset yields a "47".

Would anyone find this useful? Can you see an application or need? Or does this just add more complexity without a commensurate return?

Don't anybody jump to any conclusions, I'm just musing(cabin fever) over certain detector features.

G,day Bill. Yeah, I reckon it would be good. The more control the better. Get em to throw in fully adjustable track speed, sat control as well.

Bill,

I don't honestly know if it is needed on the X-70. I will say that when I had mine using the auto GB method (bobbing the coil) was hit or miss for getting a setting that was functional for hunting in the type of iron found at my sites. Auto tracking on many times allowed the detector to give better hits on iron co-located targets. I experienced the same thing with the Fisher Coinstrike, setting the GB using the tracking circuit many times gave better performance around iron. Perhaps the engineers know something we don't. Either that or, I don't know how to GB a detector!.

I am a new user of the X-70 and do not know enough to comment but I do have a question re GB.

I read somewhere on this forum that the GB for Coin and prospecting mode are different. Is this true and if this is the case, then when switching between both modes do you have to have previously GB'd in both modes before using?
Does beach Mode further effect the GB in coin and Prospecting mode or both?

Auto tracking seems popular in prospecting mineralised soil. When do experienced users use auto tracking in coin mode?

Sorry for drifting from the main theme of the subject with what are possibly ignorant questions

My DFX had it and I ran Track Offset +1. I'm not sure if it helped but it made me feel better knowing that the machine was tracking a little more aggressively. So sure, it would be a good feature on the X-70. Every little bit helps but then again, I like the simplicity of the machine. Ron

This link should explain your question written by George Payne.. Dan

Yes.

That would be an awsome tool on a Terra improvement. :bouncy:

As will the ability to show ID nrs in prospecting mode.:super:

Backlight.

Maybe they will add more resolution and tones too...

The big DD coils should be made lighter, I feel the old explorer design coils ruin the terras excellent balance.

Anything that enhances performance and depth is a good thing. I have found that running GB a little positive helps.
So yes...I would not mind having that option on my Xterra 70.

Hi Bill:

Just a thought..I was rereading my manual on X-70..Can't you already Plus or minus the ground balance..

Page 40....Middle right column The ground balance setting can be adjusted in three ways.Automatically, Manual, or tracking. It says Auto ground balancing will generally give a
good ground balance setting. This may further be adjusted manually using the + and - buttons. Isn't that the ability to adjust up or down. Or am I reading it wrong ??? If you off set up or down isn't that the same thing as your asking them to put on the machine. I am no expert and may have the wrong idea but it may be there for us to use already. Let me know what you think ???

Or once you started hunting would it just track back to ground balance. Or would it track on the settings you adjusted to. ??????? I think after reading this I may be a little off and hope you can clarify it for me

But I also have places inland where you're in white sand at GB30, and one step away it begins to transition to soil where the GB drops to 8, and I mean right now! So the tracking makes for a more carefree and free ranging hunting style. No auto-turbo-insta-fast-lightning-super slick grabomatic GB needed, just keep on trucking!:jump:

1. When you manually GB, you find the balance point, and then can leave it there, or set it slightly positive or negative. Unless you change it, then that's where it stays set.

2. When you Auto GB, the machine selects the GB number for you, and you can leave it there, or set it slightly positive or negative manually. Unless you change it, then that's where it stays set.

3. With Tracking on, the machine selects the GB number for you continuously, there is no opportunity to adjust it slightly positive or negative.

Thanks Bill..thought i might have been a little off on my thoughts. Then like i posted before heck yes..I want it to Off set track

For me its all about time which sucks when it comes to detecting. I don't mind noise canceling, ground balancing, toggling in and out of tracking at times and adjusting the sen settings for hot ground but my main priority is to detect. It seems to me the less I stuff around with settings the more I find and the more I stand around pressing buttons the less I find but thats just me. I'd prefer to have a machine that you know is doing what it should without you having to worry about whether it is to the extent that you need to step in yourself to adjust it, after all we are so lucky to be playing with all of this new technology, surely they could build in something that improves the GB ability rather then us having to do it manually. Call me lazy or self opinionated but the last thing I want to do after driving a few hundred kms is to stand around with a thousand flies crawling up your nose trying to see the ID screen through the haze of blackness pressing buttons.
Cheers!

I've seen references to flies from you folks in Oz. In the spring here we have little flying Piranhas that will drive you insane, so I use what's pictured below. It's cool and comfortable, but otherwise you have to use 100% Deet to keep them at bay, but they still will fly into your eyes, ears, nose etc. The trouble with the Deet is that it melts plastic on contact, so you don't dare touch the detector, as it will burn a fingerprint right into it. It's not real enjoyable if you perspire and it runs into your eyes.
