X70 shutting down problem

had to send my 70 in its a little over a year old and it shuts down if i turn it on side or lift it upward anyone else have same problem ?
if so can you tell me what the turn around time might be and what the repair/ fix was thanks pat

did some reading and found this to be common problem boy you pay so much for machine and it has such cheap parts i also noticed the the phone jack is threaded for a nut to keep it snug but none is on the thing is this common take a look and write me back I'm not sorry i bought a minelab love the machines but it seems they should fix the problem and save face

I got hold of some crap batteries that had little dimples on the contacts, the machine, XT70, would shut down from the slightest little bump as the batteries would lose contact for a millisecond. Changed batteries and have had no problems. HH, Mike

I have also read somewhere (maybe here?) that it is the contacts inside the batt compartment. Someone posted that if you ues a small dental tool and pull the springs up a bit it makes a big difference.

I agree that after paying alot of money this should not be an issue.

If it makes you feel any better I see stuff like this everyday. I work on medical equepment and have seen six figure new machines fail because of a bad design in the battery area, Beale.

Yeah. Too often. I'm seriously thinking of selling mine. It has been sent back to Minelab earlier in the week. This is the third time it's gone back with this problem, plus a couple of others. The last time back, Minelab replaced the battery compartment, but it still keeps shutting down (had different batteries in there too). Minelab agreed that it is time to replace the unit. I've decided to sell my Explorer today as it doesn't do ant better than the Ace, and the X-Terra may not be far behind it.

my X50 is being repaired for the second time, the first time the thing would not turn on and this time the LCD screen is breaking up. i bought it brand new last January.

My XP50 does the same thing when you lay it down on its left side. Sounds like a battery problem for sure.

Not trying to start a war here just a comment...Maybe if we stopped buying their machines it would open their eyes to quality control, or better original design..Just a thought, not an invitation for a smear campaign, but if they have so many problems, and it seems they do. It should be fixed before it goes out on the market. It costs money for shipping etc., and it always, leaves one a little skeptical about the machine your using when it fails you.I find them to be a little on the cheap built side myself, and am always worrying about an accidental drop
or hard bump.In their favor your machine is always repaired and thats a fact. But how much does one want to invest after the initial purchase for shipping charges. It can add another 60, 70, dollars to an already
expensive machine.Again, if we keep buying them, why fix, or improve it.
Just keep cranking them out and hope for the best. Once it's traded or sold it's your problem not minelabs.I have to my knowledge never seen them recall a machine for repairs, that you just know, by now, they are aware of the problems.Think about it. Post your thoughts if you care.

You are not starting any arguments here at all Elton. I was talking to a dealer yesterday and this is already going on! And it's been going on for a while!

Great..Glad you know my intent was not to trash Minelab. My intent is that if we stop buying, they begin to wonder why and hopefully take notice and make some adjustments.I deal with the public daily, and sometimes I can not see the forest for the trees. Maybe thats what has happened with Minelab. They think what they have is great, and it's really not that great in quality.Maybe a little push in the right direction will wise them up a little. Package their technology in a quality outer shell and go quality with the connections that keep it going wow they would be unbeatable. We as customers who are wiling to pay their price should demand quality. Minlab already has top service.
But if the stuff they repair your unit with is not quality then we are back where we started..a broken detector.

well we may not have to stop buying the machines if the powers to be read the forum and see how dis-hearted we all are... I wonder how many prospective buyers read our post and shy away form a product just a thought

I use good quality batteries in my X 70 and it has shut down for no reason several times. I do always slide the new batteries into the battery box carefully so as not to let them slam down on to the springs and weaken them more.I think that Minelab should watch the forums more and see what is going on with there machines.Maybe if every one that has had this problem would send Minelab an e-mail about it,then just maybe they will do something about it.
