X70 Questions

I was wondering if I could get some tricks and tips about the 70. I seem to be finding only pennies, my lack of silver finds leads me to believe I am doing something wrong.
1. Ghost target- seems like a good target, high number, reads consistent even when sweeping the other direction (criss crossing) after digging down a few inches 3 or 4 the target seems to disappear.
2. How many inches do those arrows represent. ( I realize that they are not gospel )
3. When sweeping I will get a good blip that reads in the 40's. usually out to the sides. resweeping over the original hit produces nothing or a lesser signal.
4. The pinpointing seems to leave a little to be desired. If a target reads a 38, during pinpointing mode will it read a 38 when I have it centered over the target?
Thanks for any replies and have patience with me, I am trying to get a jump start with this awesome detector.

Getting a blip at the end of your sweeps indicates too high of sensitivity. Do you have it GB and noise canceled correctly? Are you keeping the coil nice and level through your sweeps? How fast are your sweeps?

Auto GBed and Auto Noise, Try to keep my swings down to 2 seconds a sweep, but might be going too fast? and I am conscious of keeping it level.I did bump the sens up to 18 instead of 16

I would say to reduce your sensitivity when you start getting blips at the end of your sweeps. It's something to try anyway.

I have the 30, so I'll just comment on the pinpoint. Trying to pinpoint with the graphic display is a bit of a dogs breakfast I'm afraid. You can use it to help centre a target. You can also listen to the strength of the pinpoint signal to help figure out some targets, but it's best to pinpoint off the 12o'clock position of the inner coil. Not only is it accurate, if you listen to how the signal fades, will give you a big clue as to whether it is a coin or not. Coins have a fairly sharp fade.

Make sure to read the faqfaq at the top of the site. The nice coin hunting tips and tricks digger wrote about helped me as much as any one single thing. Are you going into "pinpoint" mode? If so I really tend to use my ears more so than the visual display. listen to the sound to fade in and out. Once you get the hang of it it works well. On the tones and VID. look for and listen for consistant numbers & tones. Watch for the number to lock in, and the tone to sound the same in different directions. Good luck to you the 70 is a great machine, Beale.
