X-terrs 70 Shutting down

silverstick

New member
5 month old X-terra 70. Out on Satuarday and the detector would shut down by itself. In a 4 hour hunt it shut down about 10 times. Batteries show full charge, changed batterys, same thing. Any hints?

There has been an issue with the battery springs. For some reason the springs in the X-70 are a bit weak. My dealer suggested pulling them up a bit to make sure they are tight to connection. Another issue that may be in effect here. I notice you said charged up. I am guessing you use rechargables? Some of the rechargables can be a tad smaller than normal AA batts. See if they are identical to reg AA. If so try the spring thing. Do not pull to hard, just a slight tug, beale.

Get a dental pick from a flea market or ask your dentist for an old one, they are great for giving those springs an upward tug. Angers me how a $700 machine has this problem and yet all the cheap crap toys I bought for my daughter for years never had the problem. What does that say?

On early X-Terras the battery springs were designed to the battery manufacturers recommendations for the tension. When it was discovered that this was not enough tension, especially if the batteries are dropped into the detector from a vertical angle rather than slide in horizontally. Then a running manufacturing change was made with not only the battery springs changed but the complete battery housing modified. If you are having a shutdown problem then contact Minelab for an RMA and they will attend to it.

Stretching the springs is just a short time fix as that is what I did. Just send it in and they will fix it and make it all well again. Like they did mine. Fast Service also. What can you say but GREAT. :clapping: WTG M/L. Later, and back to Lurking. Jerry aka Tinfoil

Tinfoil done what I did sent it back to minelab and have them check it out and they will fix it, I think. Got mine back ready to go I guess but we have 40" of snow so won't know for a couple more months, Mine was shutting off 7- 8 times per out-ting.

Like women batterys come with different size nipples lol. try another brand of batterys.
