X-terra warranty question...

New member
I looked through the on-line accessible manual for an answer to my question/concern, but could find no guidance, so I propose the question to you, the X-terra owners. If I were to purchase a used X-terra, is the warranty transferable to the new owner for the duration of the warranty? If not, and the new owner of a used X-terra found his detector shutting down inexplicably, would he just be stuck with a broken detector until scrapping up enough money to have it fixed? Thank you for any help that you can give me on this.

If someone bought a used but fairly new X-Terra and it was shutting down, a call to Las Vegas could possibly be better than one would think.

I wouldn't hesitate to buy a used X-Terra. I think the problem with them cutting off is very minor. The contact points (the little plates that the batteries rest on, when you load them probably just need to be tweaked a little bit to make a snug fit when the door is closed). I see this on flashlights all the time, and, on a few detectors with drop-in style batteries. I just use a dental pick to pull the little plates out a bit, not much, not too hard, it doesn't take much. You can use a piece of hard wire with a little "hook" on one end. You aren't likely to damage anything, trying this first, before sending your detector off. I suspect this to be the problem, because, several people have said that all they did was rotate their batteries a little bit and it worked fine again. My 50 and my 70 never had any problem (knock on wood). Bottom line: Don't be afraid to ask Minelab for help, before you send it in. Their Service Dept is Great!

I totaly agree with tinfoil. As a Minelab dealer, I always offer my new customers the extended warranty at little or no cost. They end up with a new machine and a 4 year warranty. That....is totally worth it!

you will you will lose better then $200.00 on that deal. So, it's really a question of do you have the money to buy it new. I say, if your every intention is to keep the machine, then by all means buy it new. But if you are like most of us and buy and try, then decide whether it's worth keeping or not, then it's better to buy it used and let someone else take the loss on re-sale.

I would think you would probably have to run over the Xterra with a truck for it to cost you $200.00 in repairs.

But, Tinfoil & Chuck are correct in the fact that a 4 years warranty on a new machine is great as long as you intend on keeping it, if not then it really is about useless.

I was remembering back posts about the Explorer. Seems quite a few folks paid some bucks on warranty work. I'd try it used and see if you are going to like it before you go new and find out you do not.

I personally liked the machine features, hated the coils and handgrip. When they get more DD coils out then I'm gettng another new one with the extended warranty to replace my Golden Micromax.

I've found the ones I like so my try and buy days are over. Now its just a waiting game to buy them new.

That way it doesn't count toward my total :bouncy:

Soooo, if I buy my wife a metal detector, even though she thinks it is a waste time/money/family resources(she has never said this out loud, but her facial expressions speak another story), it would be ok, because then it is hers? I'm thinking this might work out good for me!:yo:
