X-Terra users - Do Not drop batteries in!

Howdy all. When I originally purchased my two X-Terra 70's over 4 years ago, I was fortunate to be told about not dropping the batteries into the battery compartment. I am surprised at how many X-Terra owners still don't know about this problem. Had I have not been told, I wouldn't have known either. The springs in the battery compartment are weak, and by dropping the batteries in can collapse over time which can cause them to not make contact, or make intermittent contact. This can cause the machine to shut off when bumped or laid down. The fix is to take a long straightened paper clip and hook the end of the spring and gently lengthen it a little bit without breaking it. The remedy is to, with the detector sitting upright, slide the batteries in sideways so as not to collapse the springs. This should allow you many years of detecting with no problems related to poor battery contact. Hopefully this will help someone out there.

I think that goes for any detector. I learned that with the White's and their big battery packs.
