X-Terra Short Lower Rod

Relic

New member
Would someone give me the length of the short lower rod? The stock rod is too long and I need to either cut it down or wear high heels when I detect.

Thanks,
Relic

Relic.
I found the same thing and cut mine down some time back.
To get perfect alignment on the hole/coil, may I suggest that you find the correct size drill bit , insert the lower pole to it's shortest hole, then drill a new hole in the lower shaft a couple of holes down, using the holes in the middle pole to act as a drill guide. Also, before you cut the pole down, it's a good idea to remove the V clip out of the middle of the pole. I didn't and just caught it with the angle grinder.

An angle grinder, but being really neat isn't a big issue because unless you pull the shaft out, you'l never see the cut. A file can clean things up if you do mess up a bit.

I mentioned your post to my wife and she suggested that Relic would be better served if he wore platform shoes instead.:poke:

Mick it was the normal style back then and I honestly still have my platform shoes from about 1975, like the kind Elton John wore. I had long hair and an all blue polyester suit with a long pointed collar shirt. I did buy a Bounty Hunter III BFO in about 1973 and found very little. But hit the road running with a Compass TR Judge I Automatic in about 1975 finding lots and I cannot remember once detecting with those platform shoes back then. And yes platform shoes had a wide solid base to walk on and much better than narrow spike high heels. Thanks for the tip, I have not cut off my lower shaft yet, so maybe I will take them out of the closet and wear them while detecting in the spring. :heh: Will also keep me up higher and out of the mud puddles!

I was a rock and roll music buff back in the 70's. 60's and 70's is still the best music, I cannot believe how much most modern music has deteriorated worse, to a level of crap and people actually buy it?!!! BUT detectors have gotten better though!

Yes cut the shaft with a tool like this may be best:

Kiwi - I think I would look stunning in heels with a matching Gucci bag for my finds, but I'm not about to find out.

As Mick pointed out, platforms are more practical and, as David said, more stable. So, the best solution is clearly to dig out my old platforms, rather than shortening my rod, and go swinging.

It's 52 degrees here today, almost skinny-dipping weather; think I'll hit a tot lot or two and poke around for awhile.

Happy Hunting and Think Spring!

I'm confused. I am only 5'3 and shrinking and I using the stock shaft on its shortest setting and it fits me fine.
