G'day Kris.
I had a sticky at the comments that were made and I don't think that they were knocking the 70; it's just that the ground that it was being tried on is far too severe for any VLF to operate in. I have a friend that lives over on the Hill End road from Mudgee. He has some old diggings on his property from the gold rush days and the ground there is just wall to wall iron stone. From what I understand, which isn't much when it comes to gold detecting, that is why PI machines were invented, as they handle these sort of conditions much better.

Hi Guys,
Sorry to butt in, but used to do some hunting over in that neck of the woods many years ago, a friend had a 5 acre block, spent many happy days around there, would love to get back with the X-Terra (and possibly rifle, just incase of a stray fox) maybe sometime in the future....

Mick I also own an SD, but I think its the attitude of some of these SD/GP owners that gets under my skin, BT has spoken about it before if you are swinging an X-terra they don`t want to talk to you, some of these 4000 people are up themselves, LOL, the thing is most never served there time on manual ground balance VLF`s back twenty five thirty years ago and can`t handle a VLF in the goldfields.

Fair comment Kris. I've heard stories of that sort of behavior, but haven't come across it yet. As you have gathered, I haven't gotten out to hunt on the gold fields as yet, so I have been spared that type of behavior. Most of the guys in the local club swing SD's and GP's, but a couple of them have the 70 and one swings a Lobo quite happily.

G,day Kris.
You can make , or see, any machine on the market look like junk in certain ground types. I could easily take a 4000 user to a place where the 70 will blow it out of the galaxy and on the other hand I could take a 70 to a place where the 4000 makes it look like a sick joke.
Beware of static setup test patches where targets are buried. They can give flawed results. Many in Victoria use a test patch at a place called "cokatoo bush" and rely heavily on the results gained from there.
I know the place well and have not bothered to test there for over 6 years. The ground is far from typical nugget ground and cannot show a machines ability to track better, handle minerals better and to me is a joke. The 4000 was tested here on its release and pronounced a heap of junk. Tell that to all the guys finding gold with them and you will hear a different tale. Yes there are many ground types where PIs rock and are the number 1 weapon of choice. But also there are places where VLFs rock. Have a look at what the guys in Alaska find with VLFs.
As good as anywhere else in the world for nuggets and they get screamers with Terras, MXTs, Goldbugs...
Dont listen to too many of the Aussie site ravings as many are nothing more than armchair prospectors with nothing better to do than knock what they dont understand.

BT, good to see your posts...I read your articles in the oz gold magazine and enjoy them very much. Your articles are informative and well balanced without a lot of "hype"...
best wishes
