X-Terra Headphones

I noted that on this forum and the other one that there has been a few people note that the volume on the X-Terra's seems low to some folks. I use Killer Bs and noticed that I had to turn them wide open and the volume on the X-Terra 50 and 70 to get to where I could hear it pretty good. That said...the Explorer II I got came with the Koss UR-30 headphones. I tried those in the X-Terras and BAM...I had to back the volume control WAY off. Those are some great headphones for the X-Terras. I tried my B's on the Explorer and they worked great on it. So now I'm ready to roll. Thought I'd pass this along about the Koss phones though. Sometimes you see them come and go on the classifieds when someone gets them for free with a detector and doesn't want them.

Daniel,

I have the dual volume B's with 40 clicks between min and max volume and have to run them half way up with the 70 set at 28. Very interesting! I do have a set of Koss QZ-99's that I have not tried yet.

have the volume controls wide open on my Troy Pro's and Killer B 'Wasp' headphones. My Troy Pro's are my favorites, but I do like the Kiler B's and haven't had any sort of questionable audio issue with either on them on any X-Terra.

If you have dual toggle switches make sure you try them with different settings. I had a set of Killer B Wasp, green, that have a toggle in reverse position to the black set I use now.

The main thing is to make sure you have a set that's comfortable for you, and then put that X-Terra 70 to work! :)

Hi Daniel
I just use a pair of ear buds and have no problems hearing my X-30. Have the volume set at either 6 or 7. The only time I had any real problems hearing it, happened to be my first and only attempt at a beach hunt when I visited Sydney last Christmas. Was only on the beach for about 20 minutes when a southerly buster came through with wind gusts of up to 75 miles per hour. It cleared the beach in about 2 Min's flat, but after a short hunt; the cars paintwork started to figure predominately on my mind.It was a shame really as I finally had the beach to myself.Still managed to find a couple of bucks after the front came through.Just had to keep your back to the wind and git your teeth occasionally.

I had a scare yesterday... headphones quit working, so I pulled the plug and the speaker wouldn't work either. Gave up on it for a while and used my other detector.

Messed around with it a bit later and it finally came back to life. I think the headphone jack was stuck open or something. Hope that's not going to be a recurring problem. Anyone else had this problem?

Hi Gadget.
The problem with the speaker not working seems to be a fairly common problem. It was mentioned on this forum a few weeks ago. Minelab advised that the solution is, to simply slide your headphone jack in and out several times. It seems to do the trick,as I had the same problem and this advise worked.
Hope this helps.
Mick Evans.

I have a set of the older grey style, with the single volume and toggle switch. I also have a set of the newer style with the dual volume controls and toggle switch.

Both of them act the same way on both my X-70 and X-50. You have to turn the volume all the way up on the phones and then all the way up on the detectors. This just isn't with me either...but with my wife as well.

I tried those Koss phones and didn't think anything about it being louder. It about blasted them off my head.

The B's have worked fine in all my other machines. Even the Explorer II.

I will give the Koss a try. Thanks for the warning!! I admit I tend to keep the volume low on all my machines while hunting preferring to let my hearing adjust to the fainter sounds. The human ear is very capable of picking up faint sounds just as movement catches the eye and I have found out the hard way that it is much better to protect that ability in the long run.

I use the Sunrays off the explorer no problem with them.

In fact I have to turn the volume down.Jerry.

:starwars: I use R.A.T. Phones with all my detectors, and I have to turn the volume down most of the time.......Gettting my XT-70 this week, and I will try the RAT phones on it,,,as well as the phones that come with the 70.....HH
