X terra gold

First time out with the X terra 70 and a couple of small nuggets.I've worked this gully before with my 2100 but missed these. Both down about 3-4 inches and very strong signal with tracking on and using elliptical dd coil. Also old button from same area.(I have attached photo if it works). This particular gully is full of ironstone nodules but it didn't seem to trouble the 70.Bigger piece is 1.8 grams, small piece is 0.2 grams.

Looks like you have found a great place to hunt, as well as a great combination in the X-70 and DD elliptical coil. It is interesting that the ironstone didn't hamper the performance in tracking mode. How fast are you sweeping the coil? I'm also curious as to what the average GB reading would be? Not having any gold in my neck of the woods, this type of detecting facinates me. HH Randy

Nice little nugs there mate congrats. The Elliptical coil is outstanding and I have nothing but good things to say about it as everyone knows on this forum. What was the sensitivity setting you were running at the time? Its terrific to see more and more people having success with gold using the 70.
Cheers!

Hi Digger, thanks for your reply,As this was the first time out with the Xterra I was basically following B.T,s advice on prospecting settings,so I was sweeping very slowly ,approx 5 to 8 secs per sweep. The ironstone was not as much of a problem as I thought it would have been.I had iron mask set on 2 and varied the sensitivity between 18-22.The only problem I noticed using tracking was that the target signal would start to adjust to the ground balance and I would then switch to all metal for pinpointing. The real problem here in australia is that some ironstone is so hot that it sounds just like gold and you have to dig it to be sure.Cheers Dargo.

Good going Dargo. Its been ages since I heard of someone getting detectable gold up your way. Must be others but I reckon they keep it dark. Beautiful country and ranges, gold to detect, fish in the rivers, what more could you ask for!
