X-terra 705

Well I've been using the 705 now for a week.. Now I have to ask why I didn't try this detector sooner? Very happy with it.. I don't usually post finds but I may later... Happy hunting everyone.

Dude, I've used so many machines over the years and when I had the chance to buy my 705 at a great price I jumped on it. Truely enjoy using it. Just wish I would spend a tad bit more time actually learning everything it will do. I get out and hunt and just forget to try other things.
Glad you like it.

I've desired my machine for some time now ... but as depth goes, i'm not impressed so far.
my F2 with ultimate 13" DD is deeper that my 705.
maybe i'm doing sumthing wrong or it didn't had the chance to prove itself so far.
on one ocassion, the F2 beat the 705 on an ww1 projectile.
i'l see in the future how it goes

I pulled a beautiful sterling silver spoon out of an old School yard at 10" deep.. Nice smooth 46 signal.. I've used about every detector from every company since 1978 and my preferences are now changed... I love smooth tones, lighter weight machines.. I loved my f75ltd but the tones were a little too crisp for me and gave me headaches.. They were like a ball peen hammer on an anvil sound lol. The minelabs have soft tones like listening to Eagles music.. I like that.. The 705 is plenty deep , as deep as my makro racer 2.. Or deeper idk.. The 705 seems to unmask really well as I've seen already.. I like what it brings to the table..

I like the 705 very well as it brought me out of a 2 year gold jewelry slump earlier this year. You can see my post on the minelab.com/us sight dated Feb 9th. I was the winner of the Success Stories find of the month and got my prizes last week. I used some of my gift card to get a 5 x 10 18 kHz coil. The 705 is a dang good jewelry finder and is fun to use. Good luck! I know you got a good machine. HH

What do most gold rings ring up around?
I know they will vary but what are the vdis people get excited to see pop up?

A lot of mine are at 6, but majority fall between 6 and 12 for me. There is an interesting video I came across on youtube by Gerry's Detectors. It is under "Minelab X-TERRA 705 settings for hunting jewelry" . Look it up. Very good lesson in there.

8, 12, are good numbers for gold but i have found two 14k plain bands at 22, it won't come up much but when you see it "dig it"

Hi Bill,

Would you recommend the X-terra 705 over the MX-5?

Thanks

Eric

If you're asking me, I don't know the MX-5. My guess is it's a great detector. My last detector was also a very popular model that I couldn't get rid of fast enough. I sure do enjoy my 705 though.

Didn't realize there were two Bill's in this thread. lol I was asking basstrackerman, but appreciate all replies.

Thanks

Eric

Sorry Eric, I didn't his name at the bottom of the post, just naturally thought it was me since my name is BillF.

hi yes i would ...the 705 is a very very good detector that amazes me daily.. and it works just as it was made to.. ive used most detectors by most manufacturers and the 705 just plain works ...

I've been sayin' it for years.....it's the most flexible and the most overlooked machine in detecting.
Seriously underrated. Can be turn-on-and-go if that's what you want, or it can take years to learn all it can do. It's up to you.

I have used both the MX5 and 705 and they are both real nice detectors MX5 has some design flaws sort of reminds me of a girl I once knew oh dear anyway it can do things it shouldn't be able to so despite the flaws I keep it around or something along those lines , 705 is the only detector I regret selling and the way the market is here in the land of minelab I might be picking a new one up at a great price soon.

so the 705 is stable, good id, deep, relatively fast, finds coins FBS machines miss easy to set up its a real nice silver hunter .

so the MX5 is stable with the right coil for the right spot, good id, deep, relatively fast, has the 2 channels running at the same time disc and AM and finds coins FBS machines miss easy to set up its a real nice silver hunter . suffers from poor design headphone jack coil cable jack placement is very poor, does suffer from bad emi in places with mono coils DD will fix that

price wise the MX5 is a nice detector pile of coil options.

705 stable as the day is long in mild ground and doesn't get beat up by its bigger brothers every day some days but not every day some days it even lands some nice blows.

so yes a 705 is calling me after been gone for 5 years.

AJ
