hallo all!!! I want to buy my first metal detector .And I dont know which one be the best for me. I want to look for coins but bigger things as well. I have heard good reviews about X-terra 705..but I am not sure.:twodetecting:.Which one is the most popular and the best in there??? I will use in Poland. :):):) thanks for answers :):):)

Wow u got a good question .I would have to raise my hand for the Omega 8000,it is a coin monster, but I was wanting a 705 as my next machine this winter. So I'll just ride along and see what others say.

I too say the Omega. I have both machines. Each has it's pros and cons but at the end of the day, the Omega will be alot easier on the arms and at my age and physical condition, that is the most important consideration.

I can't vouch for the Omega but as a new 705 owner I have to say that I couldn't be happier with it. In just over 3 weeks I have found 168 coins and a sterling silver ring in parks that I was told were hunted out. I originally had the feeling that there was going to be a very long learning curve with the 705 but less than a month into detecting with it, I feel like I've been using it for years.

Either one will find coins. Both have large displays and are lightweight and well balanced. I primarily hunt "by ear". As such, I like the multiple tone capability of the X-TERRA, compared to the four tones of the Omega. I also like the ability to change frequencies by changing the coils (compared to being limited to one operating frequency), two modes of Pinpoint and Iron Mask Prospecting mode (target sizing) add to the reasons I prefer the X-TERRA. But like I said, either one will find coins. JMHO HH Randy

Maybe someone could give the sample detector'ssettings, I would tune it so that was the best on the coins. Already coming to me from England,!!! already can not wait!! Thanks for all help :hot:

The metallic composition of your coins may differ from other's who read this forum. So once you get your X-705, my suggestion would be (as far as setting the discrimination Patterns) to simply toss several targets on the ground, space them out, and pass the coil over them. Make notes of the TID number for each type of coin, piece of jewelry or bit of "trash". Knowing the TID value of common pieces of trash (pull tabs, aluminum foil etc) can be just as worthwhile as the good stuff. Take note of how the targets react to various sweep speeds. Learn how to separate two targets that are close together by listening to the tones or "target blanking". If you're not in too big of a hurry, build yourself a test garden by clearing the ground of any "bad targets", and burying some goodies at depths ranging from an inch to 6 inches. Then learn how to identify each of those targets by using the audio and visual indicators. As far as the other settings are concerned, I'd suggest you go to the FAQFAQ section at the top of these posts, and read the article I wrote entitled "Understanding your X-TERRA. In there, you will find information on what each setting does, and how to accomplish the tasks. Ground Balance, Threshold, Sensitivity etc. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask. There are a lot of accomplished X-TERRA users on this forum. HH Randy

Digger, I'm new with the x-terra 705 even though I have detected off & on for years having used both Whites and Fisher machines. I am very impressed with the capabilities of the 705. And look forward to many a hunts ahead. Go with the x-terra and good luck with your hunts in Poland.

Hi Danny, like Diggers says, start with the FAQFAQ. I started there and picked up some stuff prior to getting my 705. Once I received my 705 I started to use it and then went back and re-read the FAQFAQ. Some of the things that I read prior to getting the 705 were not quite clear. After receiving the 705 and playing with it for a few days, these things that were not clear in the FAQFAQ were clear the the second time that I read it. I think after a few weeks of using the 705, you will have a pretty good grasp on it.

I originally started out only using Pattern #2 because I was interested in finding coins. One day I went detecting with another family member and they found a 10kt gold ring with another brand detector. I was surprised that I didn't find the ring being that I went over the same area. We set the ring on the ground and when I swiped over it, it was not detected. The reason was is because I was detecting in Pattern #2 (Coin Only Mode) which discriminated the target ID of 10kt gold out so I never would have heard it.

What I ended up doing is pretty much what Digger is suggesting. Since I knew that I wanted to find coins I started by duplicating Pattern #2 in the Pattern #4 position. Then I took a handful of gold and silver jewelry (rings, chains and pendants) and one at a time in the All Metal Mode I ran the coil over each item and noted what the target ID of each item read on the display. Then in Pattern #4 which was now a duplicate of Pattern #2 I added the target ID's of each of the pieces of gold and silver jewelry to be now be accepted. Now, in Pattern #4 I can hunt for coins and gold & silver jewelry while discriminating most other items.

The very next time I used the detector I found a silver ring. It registered as a 38 which would have been accepted even if I was still running in the Pattern #2 mode but now I know that detecting in Pattern #4 will show coins and jewelry similar to the target ID's that I added.

Being that you are in Poland, you will want to get as many different coins that you can find and swipe over them in All Metal Mode and write down the target ID shown on the display along with the name of each coin. There is a chance that you may find that using the detector in in Pattern #2 (Coin Mode) may not register some of the coins that you can possibly find in Poland. At a minimum you will to review your notes and make sure that in Pattern #2 each of the coin ID's that you wrote down in All Metal Mode are accepted in Pattern #2. My brother has been detecting for over 30 years so I spent a night with a variety of the coins that he's found and noted what the target ID was on each coin and then verified that in my Pattern #2 & Pattern #4 that these coins would be accepted.

Good Luck!
