X-Terra 705 for gold in quartz

Hi newbie here.bought this md because I have access to old mine with huge piles of quart all sizes up to about a foot or so thick. will the x-terra 705 gold detect gold inside the rocks? If so what settings? Any help appreciated. Thanks,Denny

The 705 gold pkg. will detect gold in quart especially if using the prospecting mode with as little iron mask as possible. If the iron mask is kept the too high. you will be missing out on smaller gold..

Make sure you are using one of the High frequency coils (18.75khz) on it. If the gold is small the smallest coil will give you the best results. Also running it with the tracking off might be best.

Charles Garret and/or Roy Lagel wrote some good books on how to prospect for gold in tailings, relic hunting and coin hunting...the principles of using VLF detectors has not changed...

We find a lot of gold in hard rock quartz, but my 705 with the small 6" DD 18.75 khz coil is not as sensitive as the fisher GB2 is. I can find more small streaks in gold bearing quartz with my GB2 than I can with my 705. The 705 will find the larger pieces (1 gm) and larger but still not much depth in the veins.

If it is what you have use it. Use a small 18.75 kHz coil. Run in prospect mode, sensitivity jacked to the max, tracking off, no iron mask. It will not only find gold but conductive sulphides like arsenopyrite so just because you get a signal does not mean it is gold. For small gold running samples by hand under the coil can be a good idea so you can rotate the potential gold close to the coil while eliminating signals from surrounding rock, junk, etc. The X-Terra is not as hot as a Gold Bug 2 or Goldmaster series (GMII, GM V/SAT, GM3, GM 4/B, or GMT) but will serve if that is what you have. See DetectorProspector.com for more ideas.
