X-Terra 705 Arrived! First Test Spin

New X-Terra 705 arrived today in the mail. Took it out for a quick test spin in front of the house. Found some clad goodies and some junk. Can't wait to give it a real work out. I really like the target ID on this machine. Every coin I dug had a real solid sound with a pretty constant ID number. The first and only experience using a MD prior to today was fooling around with a GO Find 60 I bought a couple weeks ago for my son. I am hooked. I can't wait till Christmas to give my kiddo his MD. It sure is going to be fun detecting with him. What great hobby/addiction. Only wish I had started this years ago.

 Looks like a good first run!

Be sure to pay particular attention to the subtle nuances of the various tones, as you'll learn that they can tell you a lot in time.

You will have a great time as you have already found out. Go slow, dig everything and most important...... have a good time.

You had a great first hunt. I look forward to seeing your future finds.

Ugggggg...congratulations, that's a nice find.I just bought my second 705 cause I know how good they are ,and I got the high frequency coils for gold jewelry. You got a great machine, good luck.

Picked up a 705 a few weeks ago and am not at al happy with this detector.
The All metal mode is quite good with excellent sensitivity to small gold jewelery.
The Disc mode is tragic in that the detector gives an Iron tone on most deep targets below 6 inches in neutral ground and from a couple of inches in very lightly iron mineralised ground.

Small gold rings from 7g and smaller produced more iron tones than any other target that I have found to date.
When I first used this detector I did not pay much attention to all of the iron tones, which dominated the target signals, but after digging a few of these and finding coins I soon realised that the 705 was not giving the correct tones for a great many different type targets from very shallow to very deep.
I am using the 9 inch concentric

The target signal for in air targets is correct.

At the beach the detector could not gb the wet salt to a usable level whether using salt mode or not.

I purchased the 705 as a replacement for my gold bug pro which was stolen in Feb this year but it seems that the Bug was a very much superior metal detector......Or have I got a dud 705?

@ fishers ghost. Obviously I'm no expert. This is my first detector. But with said I have not had any of the problems you are describing. I'm using the same coil you are and have dug clad quarters and dimes at depths up to 8 inches. Couldn't tell you what TID numbers were but they definitely were not iron tones. They were right where they should be as far as I know. But take that for what it's worth. I'm new at this. There are many more people in this group with far more experience. I would post your question in a new thread and see what you come up with. Everyone here has been most helpful and I have learned a ton of info from them. Good luck.

Are these fresh planted coins or have they been in the ground a while.
