X-TERRA 70

When I first got my X-70 I took it out for its first hunt, and let me tell you that after that hunt, I was ready to slam it big time on the forum. I am not a newbie to detecting as I have been involved in the hobby for over 20 years, but I am a newbie with the X-70. I thought I could skim thru the instructions and head out hunting for treasure. Boy was I wrong. I had all these bad things to say about the machine, but after talking with Digger, I realized that I needed to work with it some more before I did any slamming. The first thing I needed to do was read the manuel again, and this time read it. Digger recommended some things for me to do and I did it. I took the detector out for another hunt and as you can see from the photos I found the good and the bad. I found that the detector has some great qualities and is a joy to use. I appreciate guys like Digger, because if it wern't for guys like him I would be eating crow about now. HH Dennis in Idaho

It usually takes me about 3 months to get familiar with a new detector, and some longer than that. My first day with the XTerra 50 was just the opposite. I found a lot of coins in heavy trash, but only one relic. And I was relic hunting :) Then I read the manual..lol. I just wanted to see if it was user friendly, and it was. The 70 however, took a further step into Minelab's new technology, and this required indepth reading and consulting other Detectorists. Several heads proved better than mine alone, as I do not get to metal detect as much as I used to. I couldn't agree more with you. Practice and patience will always get us on the right track. Say, are you catching any Steelhead this year? Good hunting, David@Dixie

Thanks, There are a lot of guys with great advise on this forum, and I am sure they will help anyone get up to speed with the X-70. The steelhead count doesn't look good so far. Only 845 have crossed the Lower Granite dam so far, according to Idaho fish and game. The season opens Sept 1st. HH Dennis in Idaho

Glad you found the information useful. I always enjoy helping those who are willing to learn and appreciate it. :beers: HH Randy

I been interested in the x Terra 70,but i see you found a lot of junk first. What happen when you first took it out.I run Garrett's and whites. But have been interested in the x 70 but not to many pictures of finds posted. The interesting thing to me is that the explorer forum seems to have the most old coin pics.thanks for information.

These were found within the past few weeks at an old swimming hole on a ranch down here in South Texas. This swimming hole dates back to the late 1800's and was still in use up until about ten years ago. These were found on land, not in the water. The ground was extremely hard to dig in because of the dry, hot weather we have been having. I am still learning how to properly use the X-Terra 70, but I have the advantage of owning an X-Terra 30 prior to acquiring the X-Terra 70.

My favorite coin in this batch is the 1899 V Nickel. There are also four IH Pennies in the batch.

I also own a Whites XL-Pro and a Fisher CZ, but will tell you right up front that the X-Terra metal detector is more fun to use. Depth of detection appears to be deeper than the XL-Pro but not as deep as the Fisher CZ. I have not yet used it for relic hunting. Kelley (Texas) :)

Hi, I have to be honest and tell you that when I took the detector out for a hunt for the first time the problems I was having were problems that I had brought about myself for not reading the manual as I should have. Once I found out what was causing my problems I took the detector back out. I wanted to learn the detectors sounds so I hunted in the all metal mode and dug everything, which I normally do anyway with my other detectors, and the photos show the good and the bad. I can not say anything negative about the X-70 and I plan on getting another one for my wife. I am sure there are a lot of guys on this forum who have found a lot of older coins with their X-70's, but for reasons unbenost to me they have not. HH Dennis in Idaho

Ohio Fred, I was neutral and really did not dislike anything at first and still have no major complaints other than I am disappointed that there is still no small coil being offered. I especially like the large I.D. Numbers and the light weight.

In my situation, the verdict is still out in regards to just how good the X-Terra metals detectors are in comparsion to a few others that I own and use. I must say that it is fun to use. It is difficult to give it some strong "work outs" at this time because of the hot dry weather that we have been having down here in South Texas. There are many places that I dare not hunt at this time because of possible damage to the grass because of the dry weather...this forces me to hunt on some of the ranches or other places where you are not in danger of damaging the site. Kelley (Texas) :)

Randy knows his stuff and is always more than willing to share it with those that simply ask. He's a real asset to our hobby and I always enjoy reading his post.
The X-Terra 70 is proving itself to be the REAL deal for me. I have around 300 plus hours on mine and it still surprises me on a regular basis, but that's a GOOD thing !
I've been digging some very deep silver with mine lately, even in this extremely DRY rock hard dirt.
I hunted the NS in Virginia with David, the first thing I told him about the 70 was that I didn't think it had any real depth, boy was I wrong. The problem was me, I didn't understand it well enough then to tap into it's real capabilities. Totally different story now though
Yeah there are still other machines I like to pick up and use every now and then but the 70 gets my vote most often.
Mike
