X-Terra 70 on Beach

How does the X-Terra 70 perform on a salt water beach. Was thinking of a water machine and have a 70.
Do I need another detector or will the X-Terra handle the wet salt areas?

Hi Sub7,

In the FAQ at the top are several posts/reviews/tips for the X70 on the beach.

Thanks BarnacleBill.
Have read the FAQ's but was interested in actual users input. People who have used them in the field.
I trust most of the forum's readers and since they buy the products and use them hopefully it would include some more info on a
personal level. Not taking anything away from the FAQ's because there is some fantastic info there and appreciate all who have had input.
Thanks again, and HH

Hi Rick,

I find in South Australia that I mostly need a DD coil as our sand is heavy with mineralisation.
If I dont use a DD, I must reduce Sensititvity to around 10-15 due to false signals and chatter, and I then lose depth.
Most of the DD coils are not waterproof (only the 6" is, which is not really big enough for the beach cause you mostly want good coverage), only water resistant
Keeping that in mind, and not entering the water, with my 10"x5" HF DD coil on the Xterra works well.
Lately, I hunt with tracking on and it helps I reckon.
Hunting across the beach is best ie. walking along dry sand or wet sand - not in and out of both.
My 6" HF DD coil is on order and I hope to soon use it in shallow water under jetty's.
Hope this helps up there.

Thanks for the input T59. Sounds like something I need to look at. I hunt the Florida beaches here in the states when I can.
Didn't want to have to buy a specialty machine.
Thanks and HH

Hi Subzero,
Detecting on the beach with the X Terra 70 is fine, fun and can be fabulous. If you really use all the available features on the machine, and also use all your knowledge of detecting with any other machine you have ever used, then the results can be spectacular. that is to say, if an idiot who has never used the X Terra before took it to the beach, he would probably find very little. But if you know a little about beach detecting, and apply your kinowledge to your knowledge of the X Terra 70 If that be great), then you will probably do pretty well. e.g. I was at the beach one day, with the X Terra detecting in the wet sand with the 10.5 DD coil.... dug up a couple bottle caps...got another bottle cap signal and thought "it's probably another bottle cap"...then common sense oprevailed...I was at the beach..detecting in sand..no hardship to dig another bottle cap..turned out to be a watch..still ticking..three years later..still ticking. A few minutes after the watch, an "iffy" signal...dug it..(I have refrained from being sarcastic)..dug up a very nice silver bracelet...the next day...only found two targets..first was a 50c coin, second was an 18K gold ring weighing in at 11.2 gm. The moral of the story...the X Terra 70 will find the targets, it"s up to you to dig them up. HH
