X Terra 70 for Prospecting

I have been looking at buying a detector for prospecting. I like what I read about the 70 but then I also like the goldbug2 or the tesoro lobo. Has anyone got any info comparing one against the other in the sands of Arizona.

I have used the X-70 in Alaska for prospecting and it works very well. It will ID your target in the coin mode at better than average depths. I hunt in the prospect mode then switch over to the coin mode to get an ID.

I have both the Xterra 70 and the gold bug 2, the Xterra 70 is pretty good for finding gold, and I have found it very good for finding Relics and coins. The Goldbug 2 is excellent for finding the small and shallow gold. The Gold bug will find smaller stuff than the Xterra.

The Gold bug will find smaller stuff than the Xterra Is that true even with the 6 in DD on the Xterra?

cymro, don't know, maybe someone else can answer that.

"The Gold bug will find smaller stuff than the Xterra."
bcollins, how much smaller stuff in size? Is that a GB II and X-70 both with the same size 5x10" DD coils compared against one another??

Steve in Idaho, bcollins, or anyone, if I was metal detecting to look for small micro gold to find a patch to put through my highbanker. What detector-coil combo would I use is the 1st, 2nd, and maybe 3rd choice?? Would the X-70 be able to be used for this purpose??

When I am looking for small gold I don't use the bigger coils, I use the 6" coils for both my gold bug 2 and the Xterra. The smallest stuff that I have found with the Gold bug took 3 small nuggets to show on my scale at .1 gram, and the smallest nugget that I have found on the Xterra has been .2 grams. I might be able to get pretty close to the gold bug with a lot more practice with the Xterra, but I think that I can here the sound of the gold bugs zip or click on the real small stuff easier to here than the rise in pitch of the Xterra.
I have not tried to find micro gold patches, but i would think that if the gold was fairly shallow I would try to use the smaller coils, they don't have the depth of the bigger coils, but they have more sensitivity to the small stuff that the bigger coils won't see. I think that either the Xterra or the Gold Bug 2 would be good choices with the smaller coils and using the 6"DDHF coil for the Xterra 70.

Thanks for explaining the very helpful Bill info, it is appreciated!

I suppose the X-70 will handle the bad changing variable mineralized ground better than the GB II.

Someday I would like a comparison between the X-70 and GB II with their two 5x10" coils. (Then throw in the GMT as well.)
