X-TERRA 70 and salt water detecting

As my detector will arrive any day now I am asking if..apart from protecting control panel etc...there is anything I should know
about this detecting IN shallow salt water...does one need any special settings? or do I detect same settings as detecting over wet sand?
Guessing one has to be very careful of detector when digging!! ANY hints are appreciated. This beach detecting is totally new to me as always
go bush in the search gold.

Cheers,
Kath

At the top of the forum is a FAQFAQ post.

A.Click on it and look down through to the saltwater posts.
B. Open a Word Processor on your computer(Word, Works, Wordpad, Write) etc.
C. As you read the various posts in the FAQFAQ; Highlight, Copy & Paste the items that strike you as important into the Word Processor.
D. When done, save the text file and print it out to take to the beach with you.

For further clarification on anything you read, come on back and post a question.

Thanks BB for your reply. I HAD looked there but to start off soooo much info can be confusing.

x-terra arrived late yesterday. This morning been to park & after an hour came home with lots of junk
BUT also $3 richer. Learnt quite a lot in that short time so off to a beach soon. Will take it fairly
slowly as I like to learn things correctly.

Cheers,
Kath

Kath,

I know it can be a bit overwhelming, but you'll have to excuse us a little because we tend to get a little geeky on this stuff. Kind of technically try to squeeze the last drop of blood out of a stone.

Some quick start settings for wet sand:

Sensitivity=15
Ground Balance=Beach Mode=Little Beach Umbrella Icon showing.
Ground Tracking=On
Pattern 1

Do not use All Metal on the damp/wet sand, you'll be driven mad by constant audio.

Coil control is very important, swing 1 inch above the sand in a smooth even swing, do not lift up in an arc at the end of the swing. If you are doing that, shorten the swing to remain parallel to the sand throughout your swing.

Near the surf line, if there are puddles, try to stay over the water in the puddles, or over the sand around the puddles. DO NOT swing over both in the same swing! The tracking GB in beach mode is very fast and will try to keep up with the transition which makes the machine work harder.

In the dry sand go back to normal GB mode and push the sensitivity up to go after the small gold.

Try the above for a week or so, and meanwhile get a cup of your favorite beverage and slog through the FAQ a little at a time. The longest journey begins with the first step, man was that corny or what!!!!
