x-terra-70 6inch dd coil what a beuty

New member
BY THE WAY I AM AN AUSSIE BASED IN SADDLEWORTH SOUTH AUSTRALIA AND RUN A LITTLE METAL DETECTING CLUB HERE.

just got myself a 6inch dd coil and have tested it in my coin plot out the back and have been blown away by the depth ,this little sucker hits those coins at.i have several size coins buried at varying depths of 4inch to 10inch ,i hit them all no problem wahat a little wonder this coil is ???
i bench tested it before i took it outside to see what it would do on an airtest on different coins, and couldant believe it, i could hear the coins further away than the STANDARD COIL and it is heaps more sensitive to little items ,i tried a little gold nuggett about the size of an air rifle pellett .175. on the STANDARD coil i just about had to rub the nuggett on the coil to hear it or even get a response,so i then popped on the 6inch dd and boy did she sound off nice an clear even passing the little nugget 3-6inches away from the coil.to say i was impressed is an understatement. and then when i took it out back to my test plot its fantastic performence was proved again. I AM REALY LOOKING FORWARD TO TRYING THIS LITTLE COIL OUT AT THE BEACH AND THE GOLDFIELDS it should be dynamite on gold nuggetts and gold items lost at the beaches. if you were thinkin of getting one of these little six inch coils then believe me dont hesitate.
i reckon after further field trips this coil may end up permenently mounted on my xterra as my main coil.the only down i can see about this coil is the less ground coverage due to its footprint size ?? but then again because of its sensitivity it may end up i wont have to overlap as much on each swing so may end up even or very close to it on ground coverage compared with the STANDARD coil. ps i will post this over on the minelab section as i reckon a lot of guys will probably find it interestin reading.regards ken+marg

MInelab has outdone themselves with that 6" DD. Cellar holes used to be a frustration, now I'm looking for more new ones and going over my old ones just to see what comes up. Here's what came out of a 10' x 10' cellar that my buddy and I have hunted 3 times now, the first 2 times were with the stock coils. The third time with the 6" DD was like being there for the first time. Over 50 buttons, 3 King Georges and other relics combined. It must have been a tavern or a tailor's shop.

so many positive comments on the small coils. :beers: So much better than reading these posts than it was when some were getting a bit "testy" about the X-Terra not having a small coil. :ranting: For those who jumped ship...... you're missing out on a good one! :rage: For those that stuck around, I'll simply remind you that "good things come to those who wait". :jump: Just as I remind myself every time I start wondering why, in 35 years of detecting, I've never found a gold coin??? Maybe it will be on my next hunt........ :detecting: That's what keeps me going. G'Day Marg + Ken

Great to hear that you're happy!

I and a few others had plenty of fun while testing the DD and the CC coil...

Des.

Your not posting much but you must enjoy reading our thoughts about this DD coil.

Especially me ;-)

This coil is among the best coils ever build for any detector i have used.

And,, yes, I believe you. you must have had a big grin when You fieldtested it. No wonder it took forever,, LOL

Ah Man....now your bragging..LOL.wow great finds.............Wish I could place a few posts like that.
You do very well Ron.............Love your posts.

Hi Marg and Ken,
Welcome to the forum, as time goes by you will absolutely love it, just like the Terra and the 6" coil.
I've been a member about 3 months and have learnt plenty, plus it is enjoyable to be associated in some form with people all over the world.
My wife and I were in Saddleworth the other day, passing through the area looking for a Hotel to purchase.
We are currently living in a tiny shack on the beach at Pine Point.
All the best and happy hunting

Yeah me too Digger except ive only been waiting for 16 to 17 years for a goldie. One day maybe if we are lucky.

Randy,

Thirty five years eh?
That's determination and, I think that gold coin will come and at a time when you least expect it.
An old homestead or an old fair / amusement park would be my best guesses at where one could be waiting for you?
My 1st one ever came in the BD era...before discrimination!
And, after digging about 40 other coins in a row on an old field used for sport/recreation on the edge of a small town and, I very nearly scratched it as I poked around the shallow hole carelessly - in the blink of a eye saw a "golden edge" fall down to the side as I was about to dig in again...turned out to be a Victorian half-sovereign. A couple of years later that was repeated but this time from the muddy depths of a river foreshore and the next goldie fell to prototype testing of the original Explorer XS from a farm "stubble field". That too was a shock as it was not expected.
They are [out there] and I get to see lots of them every year as they are often handed to me at detecting rallies by the proud finders.
See a short video on that on

So, keep going and I don't need to tell you that!

Gee I`ve got something over BT LOL ! I`ve found two gold coins in my twenty seven years of detecting,in 1979 found a Sydney mint 1857 half sovereign with my first detector a whites 5000 this is quite a rare coin I found it in a park in a country town, the second a full sovereign 1901 found at the beach 1993 with once again a whites machine in this case a PI1000, still have both coins I like to think of gold coins as the gold medals of detecting!
