My buddy and I hit some old schools in hopes of finding some silver, but only found some clad and one wheat penny (1944 )
The heat was not nice to us and it was tough hunting. May need to go back in the fall and try again.
On the way back home, we decided to try an old school house site that we hunted last weekend finding 5 wheat pennies and on buffalo nickel, but no silver.
We hadn't been there more than 10 minutes when I got a "45" on my display while scanning over some bare ground.
I got a double beep indicating a shallow target and just popped the target out of the ground thinking it was going to be a crown cap. Low and behold I was shocked when I saw the large disc come to light and looking closer, saw that it was a 1950 half dollar!!
This is the first one of these I have found and it is in great shape except where my digger scuffed the back some.
Oh well, I guess it could have been much worse as I wasn't looking for this to come out of the ground as I was trying to get my digger to work its way through the roots.
I still can't believe I missed this last week when searching the area, as I found a wheat penny nearby.
Lesson learned.... don't give up on a spot too soon as persistance does pay off!!
My total today was:
1 half dollar
28 quarters
23 dimes
1 nickel
18 pennies
Thanks for looking,
Felix
