i was reading in faqfaq about the 6' and the 5"by10" coils and how great they are for detecting but each with it's own limitations,as as i can see, a head, i will never get to go, gold prospecting.i mostly hunt for coins and jewellery in parks and on the local beachs and i have read that the 18.75 frequency is great for finding small pieces of gold jewellery.having said that would not the 9" hfcc be a better option than mucking about with two coils when you can only afford one more. blowfly hh :detecting:

They use it for metal detecting.

Each of the coils has certain advantages and gives an edge for different situations. Concentrics provide better discrimination(iron) than DD's. But you mentioned beach hunting(we'll assume saltwater beach). The DD coil will allow the sensitivity to be run higher and will cover more sand with each sweep on a beach, and for coin hunting better separation.

But if you said you were hunting mostly soccer or football pitches, with widely spaced targets, but lots of steel crimp on bottle caps, then the CC would be the better choice.

It's like going hunting........I believe in Oz they use a 0.17 caliber high velocity round for Roo's because the round is cheap and very flat shooting over long distances. Whereas taking on a grizzly with that round.............you better be able to run real real fast.
