X-terra 50 and XLT owners - TID accuracy at depths

It has the full range of numbers i.e. 21-22-23-24 whereas the X50 only has them in groups of three 24-27-30-33.

So the XLT can be more confusing. Say a deep dime tilted on edge reads 31-32-33-34 and bounces around on the XLT, on the X50, it gives a solid 33 reading because it can't bounce around.

I know that's not quite your question, but it is something to consider when answering your question. I think the XLT in a skilled operator's hands (and that's key) will give better target ID at depth. But NO detector really has good TID at depth. I think a new user will be able to master the X50 much more quickly than the XLT.

The best rule is if it's deep and not iron, dig it.

But ..... the XLT doesn't have the depth of the X-Terra where I hunt and I'm talking 2-3 inches difference between them too, so that kind of puts correct ID at those depths in a new perspective.

As Nick stated, the XLT, especially in a skilled operator's hand, might give more Target ID info. I feel I am fairly well "skilled' with the XLT, having aquired one as soon as they were released in '94, and owning 16 or 17 of them in the past 12 years (they are not all alike).

However, as Mike stated and as I have found using the X-Terra 50 for about half a year now, the X-Terra 50 will hunt DEEPER than the XLT, and I hunt in a lot of "bad ground" conditions, and the X-Terra 50 will ID more accurately on many/most targets when the XLT starts to break-up on them.

I really like the XLT and it is a fine "cruising unit" for shallower coins, and with the Tone ID it can be a lot of fun to use. But the X-Terra 50 can be as much fun, and even more when you factor in the older and/or deeper finds you'll make.

Just my opinions of course.
