X-Terra 305 vs Garrett Scorpion Gold Stinger

swoop

New member
Do you guys think the x-terra 305 fitted with the 10 x 5" 18.75 kHz elliptical coil would be as good or even better at finding small gold than the Garrett Scorpion Gold Stinger which has the 15 kHz circuitry and has a 10 x 5" coil also? I want a gold machine, and the Garrett seems a bit old school.

Trying to decide what to buy. Of course, the manual vs membrane style controls is a personal choice I'll have to make as well.

Thanks for any input on this.

I doubt it. The Scorpian, as I understand, has been updated over the years and is a very good machine today. If you go down to the Garrett Scorpian forum you will find a group of guys who swear by them.

If you move up to an Xterra 705 then things change. It would probably be even or to the Minelab based on their reputation for being a gold hunting company. I would have no qualms about hunting gold with either one.

You should not take what I say as the last word. Conditions vary and so do hunting styles. I have not been at this game for all that long, but I am not some dumb kid though and have put some fair time into educating myself.

AND opinions vary

Get either a 705, Scorpion, Lobo ST, MXT, or F75 Ltd for a dual purpose machine for both coins and gold nuggets. But not a 305 or Ace 250.

But I may have misunderstood you at bit swoop if you meant for small gold rings & fine gold jewelry(not for small gold nuggets in highly mineralized goldfield ground). Then the X-Terra 305(TID) fitted with the 10 x 5" 18.75 kHz elliptical coil will do better than the Scorpion(non-TID).

But for small gold nuggets in highly mineralized goldfield ground, the Scorpion is better than the 305.
