X-Terra 305 - Pre Decimal Find 1956 AU Penny

Out of Order

New member
Hi all,

Well, i know it ain't the find of a life time, but a find is a find.

A 1956 Australian Penny (perth minted), oddly enough i found it half buried under my deck.. i'm pretty sure the house wasn't around during predecimal times, so it must be left over from before the house was built, or brought in during ground work for construction.

On another note, was out kite flying with my son the other weekend and was able to only do 10min of detecting along the tree shaded banks of the local sporting ground... during those 10 min i found a $1 coin and a $2 coin.. i can't stop thinking about the potential returns along that stretch of park. I now know what Detector Fever is!! I need to get back there before someone else does.

see ya

I think it's great.
Glad you got out.
Glad to see other's use the 305.

Happy Hunting

Very nice Out of Order! I've never seen a penny with the Federation star on it. I didn't know that the Perth mint put them out either. I guess that the star was the clue that it was made in Perth.
The 305 sure is a great detector. I think that they are the best value for money detector on the market and would be just as happy using a 305, as I am using my 70. The 305 has got all you need in a detector. I'd love to see more posts on the 305. It's underrated. i may well get the next upddated one when they come out.
Mick Evans.

Thanks for the comments.

From what i've read about the penny, the key indicator of Mint Origin is the fullstop after the Y in the word Penny. PENNY. = Perth Mint and PENNY = Melbourne Mint

I hope to get out real soon.

Nice work mate. Go back real soon and show us what you find!

Mick - I was a bit perplexed by your question about the Federation star so i checked the Renniks book and it appears all Kangaroo pennies have the star :)

Cheers

Thanks for that Snoop. I hadn't noticed it on the coin before.
Out of Order. Thanks for the heads up on IDing by using the full stop after the Y.
Mick Evans.

No probs Mick. One thing you may not have noticed on the current $2 coins is that in 1988 and 89 (first two years of mintage), the initials "HH" of the reverse designer (Horst Hahne) appears on the side of the Aboriginal elder, Gwoya Jungarai (aka One Pound Jimmy).... from 1990 onwards, the initials no longer appear. Just a bit of trivia.

Cheers
