X-Terra 305 - Beach Hunt - Sydney

Out of Order

New member
Hi All,

Well, today i did a little beach hunting, and came away with a pocket full of coins and the odd bit of dress jewellery, house key, car key.

The large silver* ring with small diamonds* shocked me alittle, until closer examination showed that it was silver plated, but quite a pretty ring. Some of the coating has come off, but i noticed the the metal underneath is black.. anyone know what type of metal it could be.

Another highlight was the dolphin, heart shaped item and the necklace, and what i think could be a toe ring or possibly a washer, Just looks too arty to be a washer.. can anyone id it.

Amazingly the silver heart was atleast 12inches deep, and rang out loudly.

Terra 305 was at max sensitivity 10, 7 Ground Balance.. no falsing at all. love the 305, so easy to use.

well done good days hunting!

how was the balance in 7-10 was it in the high pitch sound? i was looking today and balanced in between high low and got changing ID signals bit of black sand on the beach wonder if going to the tone in the higher zone like 7-10 would work better?

fellow 305 user :detecting:

The key to Ground balancing is to eliminate a tone all together - or a close enough balance between high tone and the low tone in ground balance mode. You'd generally have to reground balance if you shift from one ground type to another... ie dry sand - wet sand, high mineral - low mineral. Beaches here in sydney are golden sands, unlike the irony beaches you are experiencing.. but the beauty of the 305 is that you can adjust your ground balance to suit.

I did past over the wet sand near the waters edge very briefly, thats when the 305 started falsing.. i didn't reground balance or turn the sensitivity down, only because i wanted to concentrate on high traffics areas of the beach rather than waters edge. The day had on and off showers, which made the sand damp but that wasn't a problem at all. Salt water will play more on your detector ground settings than fresh water (rain/showers).

that would explain why i was using 3 ground balance as i had some black in the sand. i was just wondering if you were doing something different to the no noise GB.

lots of junk where i was little bits of foil and 1st sweep would give a good Target ID and then it would go to junk you know that noise like a pig grunting i don't bother with pig grunts :goodnight:

every beach is different hey and yes maybe the rain and wind had something to do with targets jumping around on the number ID's.

but when i did get good targets they rang clear and good a bit of stuff few coins bit jewelry had fun with the southerly blowing no body around :clapping:

Not too bad Out of Order. I love it when I can get down to your neck of the woods and hunt. it's also great to see a 305 post. Very nice little unit. If I'm hunting for goldies, I think that the 305 is a better choice than the 70 I use, as they mostly lock into 32. The $2 coins can bounce down to 28 but I like that arrangement.
Mick Evans.

Thanks mick.. yeah, youre spot on with the $2 coins and the solid 32 id. Im hoping to get back out there real soon.

thanks kiwi.. hey, i'm a kiwi living in sydney.. what part of NZ you at? I'm originally from Wellington.
