X-Terra 30

Haven't seen anything about the X-Terra 30, only the 50. If they are both Vflex, why does the 30 only use 1 coil (saw this on a dealer's web page), I take it the 30 won't be able to use the smaller coil to change the frequency, is this correct? IF so, for the difference of $170 you'll be better off with the 50. Please correct me if I misunderstood what I saw. Thanks, John

Since we have very low mineralization here in Southeast Texas I was thinking about getting the 30 but for the difference in price the 50 would be better just in performance alone with the changing of the frequency alone. I take it the 30 will still be able to use a smaller coil or is it just limited to one coil? Thanks, John

I have learned never to say never.... But I'm sure someone could eventually bring out an alternative sized 7.5kHz coil that will fit the X-Terra 30, that is, if there is a market for one.

I fell that the technology is proprietary. And the property of minelab. I minelab does no give the information about the chip than the 3rd party after-market will have too spend a lot of money to find a way to make there products work on this detector.

Skippy, I am not familiar with the Sony cells you mention. However, if they are AA cells and if they are NiMH with a voltage of around 1.2 volts per cell, you should be OK. The mAh rating is basically a storage capacity for each cell. The more mAh, the longer they will last between charges. Again, I am not familiar with the Sony 3800 cells. Sounds like they would make great digital camera cells! But if they meet the criteria I mentioned, they should be fine for the detectors as well. HH Randy
