X-tera 705 Needs a 15X12 Butterfly Coil MineLab Wakeup

Why does Minlab not make a 15X12 Butterfly coil for the Xterral 705? This is an awsome machine, and it needs a larger coil.

Tis the season for wishes!!! The XTerra coils have a IC Chip inside and Minelab will not give up the secret. So for those who want the Detec coils and the Sunray probes, well, let's say your out of luck. I know a guy that even disected a coil to find the chip, it is enclosed in epoxy and is destroyed when you get to it.

If I had a coil to disect I could locate and retrive the chip intact I'm sure. I have removed epoxy from several items. It's a very slow go with a super sharp exacto knife. I'd build my own coil if I had all the info on coil windings, and the correct wire guage, what kind of chip to use, ect. I'm sure it could be done.

I would like to see an 11" Pro Coil like the Etrac and Explorers. It shouldn't be too hard for their engineers to come up with a couple of different options. Maybe some of the better connected forum members could put the "bug" in their ear. Would there be any benefit to start a thread along this line and include some of the Minelab folks? Maybe if enough folks showed interest they would feel inclined to come up with more coils.

I've wondered about the lack of aftermarket coils on the Xterra till I read about the chips. I do think we have a pretty decent selection but there isn't anything BIG. Still, I wonder why they can't contract with some of the aftermarket coil companies and come up with something new-it's not like they won't sell!!! I'll sign a letter to Minelab if y'all want to get one together!

I agree that there are places that I could use coils other than those that are available. But for those of you who have been on this forum for awhile, you know we have been beating this horse to death for several years. I still talk to Minelab folks about building some different coils, on a fairly regular basis. But at this point in time, I don't see it happening. And the last word I got was that they weren't ready to share their technical information with an aftermarket company either. Who knows? Maybe new management and a New Year will change things. HH Randy

From what my local dealer say's, they are a mess out in Vegas now. Slow orders & deliveries due mainly on demand of the more expensive gold machines.

Like Randy said, we-I have went over this point before numerous times. Yes a 15X12" Butterfly Coil for sure as they have been getting very good reviews from users. But from Minelab I would like to see about a double size, 2x lightweight version of the 10x5" DD coil, like 18x9" or 18x10" DD elliptical in both LF and HF X-Terra coils, or rectangular shape like the Tesoro CleanSweep 18"x3.6" coil.

I need bigger coverage LF DD X-Terra coil for hunting huge size farmers fields and large areas like homestead acreages or some people do relic hunting big bush areas to cover more ground. Or a big HF DD for prospecting large vast spances of shallow bedrock areas too. I have a Swingy Thingy bungee if need be for long hours.

Otherwise you could buy an Whites M6 or MXT with a 15X12" or 18X15" Butterfly Coil for the time being. There is a also a Fisher F75 15X12" Butterfly Coil available in Europe. Or use a round 15" DD WOT on a Musketeer Advantage. Yes there are also big Butterfly Coils for the the deep Minelab BBS and FBS machines but they are too slow sweep speed to get that extra depth advantage, to use in large farmers fields which defeats the whole purpose of covering large areas faster.
