X-T 70 very fine gold readings using the 6" DD HF coil:

To those of you who have used the Minelab X-T 70 with the 6" DD HF coil on very fine gold, could you give me the readings that you received on that kind of gold. A relative bought a very small vial of gold at a show and when I later took a reading on it, it only read "2" which goes against everything I've read and heard on what fine gold should read when using the above combination. Thanks, Mtnmn

Hey there. I have that same set up and I usually get readings on gold from 4-16. The reason your having trouble is because the detector doesn't see a vile of gold it sees a bunch of small flakes. It tries to read each individual piece instead of the big picture. This will also happen on say.... Gold chains/silver chains..... anything very small but in numbers. Hope that helped.

Apparently fine gold must read all over the place depending on where you are finding it and how many impurities are in it. I spoke with a Minelab rep. from Nevada and was told it should read in the low twenties on the X-T 70. Also corresponded with a well known nugget hunter from Nevada and he said when he used to use the X-T 70 with the 6 " DD HF coil on fine gold, it normally read between 22 and 26 on his machine. Guess I'll be looking for anything that reads from "2" on up when out hunting for glacier gold. Suspect once I start finding it in my area, it will all pretty much read the same.
