X-90 and XZ-35

X-70 is arriving today and may not get to use it until spring ... unless of course I go check some snow banks in the parking lots. LOL

What concerns me is when the X-90 comes out or the new and unheard of XZ-35 ... (Should be able to reach down 15 inches and eliminate all pull tabs ... but still bring up the gold.)

Will my x-70 be obsolete by spring? Will I have to replace it before even being able to use it?

Just as important ... WILL YOU?

Cabin fever is really grabbing us all here ... but Christmas should cheer ... wife says new X-70 must go under a tree with a ribbon on it. She has turned into a real Scrooge.

I think your overreacting...cabin fever does strange things...perhaps a new variation will come out important thing is to learn your
XT-70 which I am sure will serve you well..From what I have seen over the years new unit may look different have a new bell or whistle but little changes relative depth or discrimination...and actually metal detectors have not come very far in their evolution when you see cell phones that will fit in the palm of your hand and plasma 50 inch TV's etc..etc..

Minelab has provided us with top of the line detectors as i rate the XT-70 for many years and allways seem to come up with a new model in the same line with some adjustment and more user options or features faster then any other manufacturer.

Well, I dont think they drop the terra line fast. I am sure they will release a new terra model but dont know when.

I dont think it will be deeper then my terra 70 but may well hold some new features that I like. I will buy one and keep my 70.

My hope is that they will add flowting ID in prospecting mode and a backlight. Maybe a higher resolution ID with more tones or pitch and as stated in another tread the possibility to choose an offset GB in track mode.

More lightweight 10" DD coils would sell as fresh bread !!!!

But as stated, I dont expect the new model to do better depth, just give me more features I like. Oh well,, an added ID to prospecting mode will get me some more depth on selected targets,, YES......but thats just because i am lazy digging prospecting signals that dont ID in all metal. I have had a few eyeopeners when just scraping off some dirt after a prospect signal that the all metal mode cant reach, then it IDs good in all metal too.

I am buying a new detector soon. I was thinking seriously about the X-Terra 70. Is it as deep as I have heard? Is is comparable to Fishers 1270? I live in East TN and do as much TH'ing as I can. But really need to buy the best detector I can for about $700.00.
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

I have had the 1270 and I think the X70 SPANKS it on depth and Iron rejection!!!!

I would think the XT70 would rule on the iron rejection issue....and certainly easier to attain superior depth.....1270 is a remake of the 1266 and certainly doesn't have the 1266's depth....

When and IF an X-Tera 90 is released, the available coil selection will most likely stay the same for some time.

So any further "Whistles and Bells" on future models will probably be just that. Unless they announce a new model for the X-Terra series to compete more directly with their GPX high-end models ... and that's not in their interests now, is it? Even waterproofing further it would place it on a direct pitch with their existing Excalibur series.

The discrimination on the X-70 is impressive. In prospecting mode (Default Prospecting Mode) I was lucky to spot even a bit of Tin... certainly no ringtabs for me. In every instance it was a piece of iron, a shell casing or it was a tiny gold nugget. As soon as I switched to "All Metal Mode" or even Relic Mode, the thing would go crazy in high junk and also in Mineralized soils. No complaints here. It does what I need it to do very nicely!

Sure, you could upgrade if another model is released. But although the X-70 has been out a little while, Minelab have only very recently begun promoting it properly in press, online and in magazines. Certainly the owners like it. I wouldn't be inclined to upgrade UNLESS new technology were introduced to new models. That's where new advantages will certainly lay.

BTW, you spooked me with your title... I just purchased my X-70 and figured there was a new model out already.

/ I was due to make a big trip of it today with my x-70 and would be out there this minute if it wasn't for the deluge of rain over the region. Grrrrrrrr!!! Two weeks of daily thunderstorms followed by two more weeks of daily thunderstorms. After 7 years, I take a month off work in an 8-Year 'drought' to prospect in dry country (Australia) and THIS is what I get! Aaarrgh![/size]

I'm sure at some point Minelab will make another detector, whether the Xterra 90 or something else. That's how you stay in business. I don't know how the 70 could be improved on though. I'm thrilled with mine, don't want a backlight, and don't care if the prospecting mode has an id or not. If a new Xterra could see through iron, which no detector presently can, and had infinitely superior depth, I'd definitely buy it, but I don't see that happening anytime soon.

Old compass 77B will see through iron put 4 or 5 nails down with a dime under them the 77b will do the job. Dan

I know a number of detectors will see the coin under iron if they're touching each other, but if a nail is at three inches and a coin at four, no detector will hear a peep from the coin. It's just a physical fact that no detector, with current technology, can see through iron, and all design engineers know this.

I am sure that Minelab will come out with new and better detectors at some point ... but the X-70 is one Bad Boy and will more then suffice for now.

Do you have any other info on the X-90 or the XZ-35 as I am looking into buying the X-70? Is there any information out there on the web about their new products? How did you hear about these new products? Thanks

The 70 is a very popular detector and I don't think minelab will abandon such a great machine not to mention the 50 and 30. They still haven't even brought out the big coil for this detector yet so I don't think you have to worry too much about another model too soon.

Thank you. I ordered my X-70 today with 6"DD & 10.5"DD. 5X10 was on back order. I should have them Tuesday or Wednesday.

And dont forget the X Terra 2000. Now that will be a machine. 3D visual colour readout of the ground, gold only mode, runs on the new "SUPER MICRO BATTERY" , only weighs 1/4 of a gram but powers the machine for three months continuous use. And, yep theres more, the wild creatures repeller mode for guys in the States who have Grizzlys and Cougars to worry about. Press the button and nasty critters for miles will run for the hills leaving you to detect away safely at your hearts content. For Aussie users it will repell Taipans, King Brown snakes, Black snakes and Greenies. Sweeeeeeet.

Hi Guys,

Well heres hoping this is what we will be using in a year or two. No Discrimination, no menu, no threshold, no tracking, no patterns. Just an on off button, battery symbol, target depth, pinpoint button, and detect. Just look into the screen and thats what you have got. I will be the first to buy it when it comes out no doubt

Got a new X-70 a few weeks back ... was messing with it in my office and my wife came in ... had it making some strange sounds and she ask ... what is that?

Told her ...thisis my new dork detector ... and ask her to leave the room.
