X-70 will not show TID numbers in test field

I have posted something last week on TID numbers not showing what was in the ground. Thanks to the posts I received I set up a test field with tabs, foil, a quarter, dime, nickel, and a penny approx. 6" deep. Before I buried these I checked the area with 2 other detectors to make sure the area was clear of trash. I then set the X-70 in am, ground balanced, noise canceled, and set sensitivity at 16. Before I used the X-70 I checked to see if the other detectors would pick up was was buried and they easily did. When I tried this with the X-70 at 16 sens nothing would show. Began increasing the sens one number at a time and still nothing until I got to a sens of 24 and at that time the numbers were going from --6 to 35-36. I could not get it to lock on anything. So I decided to call minelab before I wrapped it around a tree and was told to send it back so they could check the circuit boards. I know that this unit can"t be that difficult to use. Again does anyone have any ideas or has anyone run into this? Thanks again for your support.

A. Is this a new detector? If yes the first call should be to your dealer for a replacement.
B. Take off the coil cover if it is on and try again.
C. Disconnect coil plug and re-seat back into connector.
D. Do a factory reset.
E. Put in fresh alkaline batteries of a different brand, a weak cell can cause weirdness.
F. Outdoors with sensitivity @ 26 & after Noise Cancelling, put unit in All Metal, hold coil out away from body waist high parallel to the ground. Listen.....do your hear any chatter or noise?
G. Do you have a cell phone on you? Turn it off.
H Are you or a hunting partner running another detector nearby?
I. Have a different coil? Swap it out.

These are the kinds of questions your dealer should be asking you.

Try using the auto ground balance.
One post here recommended setting the sensitivity to a single digit level prior to manual ground, I tried that and it did help get things more in order for me.

I'm trying to remember how it was worded. Something like "Minelabs hate freshly dug dirt.' I had the same concern when i buried a coin and found that my x-terra 70 would barely respond to it. But out in the field it performed perfectly. If i were you I'd forget about the test garden for a few years and hit the parks and schools. If you're still not happy with the performance see your dealer.
