X-70 Relic Finds Pre X-M:usmc:as

Here some better Buttons found In Hard Hit Union Camp with 10.5DD 7.5 coil. all buttons where over 12 inch deep. The two eagle "I" buttons are early war 1840s and button on right is Rare State Mass. Staff button. Folks, After spending lots hours and hunting for over an year under my belt with my X-70 to say, it very clear for getting extra depth in Relic Hunting or any type you may do that you need to get Max. depth, Remember hunt in all/metal and only in two tones with Sen. set as high as possible!!! , I run mine on avg. at 27-28 at most sites I hunt . These deep buttons where not heard in any of patten #1 0r #2 . The all metal mode allows you to here theses very deep "fringe singles" that Pattens setting don't. I firm believer that more items that you notched out in positive scale does have an effect on hearing deeper items and slows down audio response on deep items. This little depth may not matter in coin hunter, or other tuple's hunting. But in relic hunting or hard hit camps that I hunt this is the difference depth, and makes diffence between finding an few good targets or going home empty handed!! Chuck acton

I am pondering which coil to buy the medium or high freq coil. How much longer will you be off work?

I talkled folks at Minlab about What Feq. 10.5Dd to Buy. The High 10.5Dd 18 Feq. will do little better on super small items such as thins rings, and neckles ect. and my be little more better in real bad soil. But overall the 10.5DD 7.5 cover greatsen. to all typles metel , brass ,lead, cooper. From my typle hunting which is Relic Hunting only I would chose the 7.5 10.5DD . Chuck

I'll second the motion on the 10.5 DD 7.5 coil, I have a camp that I "Test" detectors in and the X70 with that coil is hard to beat. The only other to come close was the T-2. Man the deep ones still ID in the jumpy 40's then when you remove some soil they drop back down to 28-32. I use the same settings and I also use the tracking mode. Remember, vegitation has a role to play here too. The hay field i hunt in is down to about 2" high right now, just like hunting a yard in town:detecting:

You are absolutely right about the All Metal mode, use it if you can. I very seldom run in Patterns unless it's really trashy and even then, I don't like the response I get in Patterns as it always sounds scratchy. Sometimes I lower my Sens. in All Metal to 22-24 just to be able to keep it in that mode as, like you said, the Patterns mode sometimes cancells out the deep hits. Beautiful buttons with some nice gild. Ron

great finds in great shape , thear cloths must have been really worn out to lose all those buttons or the thread was not as good as it is today

I have been under the weather so only been one more time and just got some shot bullets and percussion caps. My first time in a pounded site I got three 54 caliber enfields that were dropped, one dropped two ringer and some percussion caps so was much more pleased with that hunt than the last one. drop me a line at jtalley007@verizon.net so I can email you directly,

Jerry

Fantastic finds!! I do have a couple questions for you. Why only 2 tones? I have yet to do any relic hunting, but hope to. Are you just looking for high VS low sounds? Are ID # as important in relic hunting? What would you suggest to someone that has only coin hunted? How do I start trying relic hunting? I have not used All Metal as yet. Thanks in advance, Beale.

The main reason I hunt with only two tones is and only in All/ Metal is very simple. In relic hunting you spend lot time walking threw woods, feilds hours on end. The first signals you get 50% of time are-iron targets, such nail's or iron which common finds in Civil War camps site surface camps or old house sites . The tones tones only give faster sharper respones on better targets other then iron, and personal it get boreing for me to hunt with hearing all targets ect. In Coinhunting is differnt depening if hunting new site from late 1900 on, with normal full modern trash. Hope this hepls. Chuck

Hey Chuck, thanks. Yes that helps me undestand the concept. I really need to try all metal for a while, even coin hunting. I have gotten a bad habit of listening for the high tones and not the lower. I need to re-adjust my thinking. I hunt mostly parks and ball fields for coins. I have found some good items, and even a few relics, by chance?

Any relic help is good, Beale.
