X-70 gone sour

We think my brother's X-70 needs some help and it's only about 3 weeks old. Will air test a quarter at 3" max.!!! Penny on the ground hardly makes a blip sound. Quarter a little more than 3" down, forget it, not even a beep. Tried all settings, 3 different coils, new batteries and all connections solid. Worked fine at first then something happened along the way. Hope it doesn't take forever to get fixed.
 
If you haven't already, reset the detector to Factory Preset(FP), see the manual on page 44 for how to do this and what the readings should be afterward. A link to the manual is in the FAQFAQ.
