x-70 First Run

Went out today with the x-terra went to a place where I had found gold before didn`t find any gold but found plenty of bullets ext. tested out ok with my .10 grm test nugget, I wanted to use the prospecting mode first as it is easier for an old timer like me to get my head around it was great in one of the trashey areas with the iron mask but my principle gold machine will still be my SD.
Next to do battle with the coin & treasure mode, this machine will replace my almost twenty year old golden sabre.
I did have a problem,it cut out a couple of times after a small bump I found if I opened and closed the battery door it would fire up again anyone found this problem? should I put more tension on the battery springs? but don`t want to void my warranty.
Also the battery was going down to one segment then back up to two but they are not new batterys so maybe it`s not related to it cutting out other than the cutting out it ran great.

regards
kris

Good luck with your prospecting Kris.
The problem with the battery was cropping up often when the X-Terra's first came out. I suffered the same problem with mine. The most likely cause would arise when you place the batteries into the machine. when you place them in, place them in in a horizontal fashion and don't drop them in as the location of the battery housing tempts you to do, as the springs become compressed from doing this= no battery contact. I teased my springs out very gently. When I sent my machine back to Minelab a couple of weeks back, they replaced the battery housing for me.

G,day Kris. The iron mask works great but I only set mine on the minimum of 1 and not the 5 preset. After trying it over and over I found that 5 and above can knock out or misclassify gold in ironstone when the ironstone is greater in parts, volume wise, than the gold.
Same for gold in pyrites and other iron related oxides.
I trust it no probs on 1 though and on 1 it will do a great job on junk so dont worry. Still check the iffy ones though which try to blank one way and not the other or blank initially then dont. Get the hang of cross checking by switching in and out of prospecting and disc mode and you have one very good gold amongst the junk detector. Remember though to set the sensitivity in disc mode to suit or complement the prospecting mode. Might be a bit lower or higher but youll get the hang of it.
